so the gf's hail repair estimate came in...

$5,000+ http://smiliesftw.com/x/hsughrun.gif

the roof and hood need to be replaced, in addition to lots of paintless dent removal in several other areas. the car is 3 months old.

roof removal a common repair item? seems like some filler would be a better call there http://smiliesftw.com/x/dunno.gif

Welome to thread #5. Sucks.

What are you stupid? FILLER?!?!

Do you want it to look like that in a couple years?

The roof does flex you know, and it’s a standard body panel like any other car. It’s usually bonded in and has a few spot welds holding it in place. Easy enough to replace with the right tools but it requires you to remove the windshield, rear window, headliner. Seriously, this is what INSURANCE is for, $5000 is not out of line.

yes, i am stupid :rolljerk:

so this is common then?

If you searched and read the other threads, everybody else was quoted like 3k-6k as well… sounds common.

thanks, that answered my question http://smiliesftw.com/x/highfive.gif

lol filler , I could see a wind gust on the skyway converting it to a convertable

im working quite heavily on a CARSTAR initiative re: hail in Southern Ontario.

$5,000 is below average for non-PDR repairs. We are averaging $6,500 right now.

the roof has to be skinned and it takes a lot of time

if the car is 3 months old, odds are that the roof skin is in no way structural. :fyi:

Yea, it’s pretty common.

pics of said roof panel ?

edit: roof panels are usualy a bitch to get looking good again, as they dont have much dome or any body lines, 2 things that tend to “contain” a dent

what looks like a 4" daimeter dent is a 8 or 12" circle of filler by the time your done, especially when its dent on top of dent on top of dent.

ive mudded roofs before, it gets ugly FAST

thanks, i didnt know this

not sure if i have any pics, but it’s an SX4 with a fuckton of ~1" dents if it helps at all
