So what does pittspeed think of holset turbos?

Did some research on the HY35 vs. a T3/4

1st thing is specs I was comparing a t3/t04e stage 3 turbine with a 63ar housing, 57 trim wheel with a .63 ar housing. Measurements of the turbine wheel are, Inducer 2.564 the exducer is 2.215. Comperssor wheel, inducer 2.225, exducer 2.952, Those are some pretty common turbos easily available and well proven. Now for the holset, with a 9cm turbine housing (I belive but from the mat this would put it at .34ar which i know isnt right) I belive it to be around. .63-.74 somone correct me if im wrong. Turbine wheel inducer, 2.570 hmm seems about the same exducer, 2.275 little bigger there not much, Compressor wheel inducer, 2.078 exducer is 3.073 little smaller inducer but larger exducer. Also note that the holset compressor wheel has 7 primary and 7 2ndary veins for pushing more air, the t04e only had 6 primary and 6 secondary. This alows the holset turbo to produce in excess of 40psi where the t04 would run out of breath. Next i compared compressor flow charts Its extremely hard to get ahold of a compressor map for a holset turbo the most you can get is the flow rating at 3.0 bar which is .46kg a sec. Roughly 60lb a min. By some standpoints that good for 600hp Im not sure on that i have deffinitly heard of 500 out of the holset turbo. Its hard to tell exactly what the compressor dose but it is designed to push 18psi daily on a cummins so its not optimized for 3 bar it just dose it efficiently due to compressor wheel and compressor housing design Info at www.holset.com (hx35 has the same compressor) Now for the t04e it flows about 45lb a min at 2.4 bar and if you go to 3 bar its even less around 40. Both turbos spool at about the same point from what i have heard around 3700 (20psi) and both start to make boost at around 3200. Holset turbos last and extremely long time the hx and hy 35’s have done 300,000 miles in a desiel and still go further. they are built well balanced well and have 360 deg thrust bearing standard. Even better yet holset turbos come with a 35mm wastegate built in and 18psi wastegate. Shows there isn’t much difference in the wheels other than the holset has 2 extra fins on the compressor which makes it much more potent.

I think you have the wheel properties backwards.

more fins means a heavier wheel and less flow. it takes more shaft rpm to create x amount of cfm compared to a compressor with less fins. Also though, more fins means strength. Though efficiency drops with more fins, strength and reliability increases. Send any kind of debrie through a gt30r and the wheel can damage… do the same to a holset, and nothing will happen.

283k on my tiltbed’s HX35 and it only has a minimal amount of shaft play.

he’s talking about paired fins which improve compressor efficiency

all motor

?

its one of those things…all motor mood

just fork out some loot and get a 30r, end of story

just read my mind.

t3/to4e or somethign would work

how much do these motors/trannts hold

500 hp in an mr2 would be scary

Yes as scary as in a civic! … there are a few that are in the 9 second range. Around 500whp.

rwd+ rear motor+500= 9 seconds

it would take some look im sure to get that thing that fast though

it does help traction wise / hook when you have a motor and trans right being you.

someone else post it looks like a post off

someone tell burnd he sucks or somethign!234

gimme your motor well try it out in my car!!

that thing sucks too,

my turbo is a pile of shit,
my tranny is a pile of shit,
my car is a pile of shit,
get a 40 or 42r money pending this year
and going to push it really hard till it pops iwill not be happy till i go mid 9s

oh my.

i’ll see ya there.

lets see… it should either lift the head or break the crank. I definitly want to be there when that happens!!!

dude… GT55r all the way.

crank will not break!!!

head will lift if anything at all

i think im going all motor…piss on it
