a friend of mine in chassis fab. decided his 900 lb/ft of TQ was not enough and decided to fabricate his own TT setup for his Cummins ram. (hes hoping for in excess of 1400-1500lb/FT of TQ and between 4-500HP on 60psi){YES 60PSI}
^^original Holsett turbo setup(on his buddie’s cummins RAM)
in all the pics with screwdrivers in the turbo they were priming hte injectors and they did not want to turbines to rotate.
it is running tho once he builds 30-40psi he blows his boost tube off
FYI, the truck hits 30lbs instantly, then lags for a bit then shoots up to 55, would have gone higher but he blew a coupler off. That was in a 3rd gear not going past 3500 RPM! 4K redline. In 4th and 5th, its pulling gears, it will probably spool up and over 70 lbs of boost!
My buddy has a Ram like that. He pulled the motor and rebuilt it. Then he got a Banks kit that changed the I think Turbine housing on the turbo, different exhaust manifold and I believe different intake manifold. It also came with all the computer garbage for adjusting output and he put down 1300 ft/lbs at the rear wheels. I dunno if going with a TT setup is the best way to go on one of these motors but its cool either way.
While its definitely neat, I’m not to impressed with it. Its not uncommon to hit those numbers with a bully dog kit, or banks and some propane. I wonder how long his rear end will last. Good for him though, get some better couplers and a EGT gauge. That exhaust will get hot.
He has an EGT gauge, it was spiking 1200*F last night. He said its running real hot and he will have to get new fuel valves, he wasn’t expecting this much boost lol. Couplers can withstand the pressures but we need to find a better way to keep the piping on the couplers. I don’t get why your not impressed. Hes going to be making 70 lbs of boost! Bulley dog kit can’t do that I’m quite sure.
Its not always about making tons of boost. His numbers hes expecting (if he hits those) are nice. My comment for not being impressed was more along the lines of its not uncommon for a diesel to do that.

Anyway, :tup: for him. Nice project.

He was expecting those numbers because he thought it was only going to build 45 lbs of boost. Hes building a lot more boost now so I’m sure the numbers hes expecting have increased.
