so whats the deal with LKQ closing already?

went there today with a relative who needed a wiper trans… almost all the cars are gone, they said theyre closing to the puplic in the next week or so? not that im mad, but the only other u pull is m&m or ones in other counties…

I used to deal with LKQ as a wholesaler for quite a few years. They probably just don’t want people in their pick and pull. It doesn’t make them as much money as their real operation which is mailing you parts on a pallet, and giving them a warranty. Not to mention insurance liability, and lack of demand in the Buffalo market (possibly). It might not be worth it for them to run the pick and pull yard.

If you want parts from them, call the 1800 number, and you can get large parts shipped via freight anywhere in the US. I used to deal mostly in used engines and transmissions.

If you are looking for something small, I suppose there are those shitty salvage yards on William Street.

WTF, that blows. No more $99 engines? Sux

They would rather charge you $1000, and ship it directly to your repair shop, and include a 6 month unlimited mileage warranty. This is how the big salvage yard chains make money, not by selling people parts who want to pick it themselves. Joe Public does not and will not ever go to a pick and pull yard in their life. However, they do know how to call a 1800 number, and say their credit card number over the phone.

I have toured some of the larger LKQ operations on the west coast, and it is absolutely MIND BENDING, the amount of business that they do. Most of it leaves via freight truck. I watched one of their mechanic shops where they strip vehicles, and barcode everything for sale, then recycle what can’t be used.

Which way do you think is more efficient?

honestly the only thing ill miss is the cars being off the ground…lol… they never had much of anything i ever needed…

Where was lkq?? I never heard of it

I was there a two weeks ago and in for 15 minutes.

Came out and my window was smashed and a stereo stolen.

Awesome. fuck that place.

If they’re changing this location over because of lack of business, I’m not surprised. When they opened the guy told me they’d be bringing in 20 cars a day. They do that in a week. They’re more expensive than m&m, often better cars but less turnover, so people would go there as a last resort. Plus many don’t even know they exist. I will miss their dollar sales though- I wish M&M would bring that back.
