A bitterly cold Alaskan summer has had surprising results. For the first time in the area’s recorded history, area glaciers have begun to expand, rather than shrink. Summer temperatures, which were some 3 degrees below average, allowed record levels of winter snow to remain much longer, leading to the increase in glacial mass.
In terms of geological history and time, or planet has seen countless warming and cooling events. Humans have only been on this planet for a blink of an eye in the history of the earth. To think that we (humans) are a significant part of what’s causing a warming or cooling event, or that we can do anything to stop or slow it is just silly. But it sure makes for one hell of a marketing campaign…
When the north and south pole flip as they have several times in the planets history, I hope I’m around to see how people like Al Gore blame it on us then try to make money off it it. Hell, maybe I’ll cash in too.
yup… instead of people ignorantly thinking that they could stop it, perhaps instead, we should be focusing on how future generations could survive another ice age.
like you said, it’s one hell of a marketing/political gimmick
