i have a 89 yamaha blaster that needs a top end rebuild. i bought the atv a few years back and its been great, but the last few times iv taken it out its been smoking more then normal and has had oil on the spark plug. the guy i bought it from said the cylinder has been bored which is y i need someone else to do it as i wouldent know how oversized it is and would eather pay someone to do this. if anyone knows a guy or a decent shop that wont rape me on the job. since its getting cold its fine if this takes someone a month to complete as long as i have it back my the spring so i can mud around
I did a top end for CHODA on a blaster before. Doesnt take long.
Super sway to do, just do it your self.look online and I’m sure there is a step by step.
I’m sure I could, just don’t have the ambition to mess with it. Would rather pay someone. If your interested kuntry send me a pm
Adam is the man at fixing everything.
My buddy said he would fix this if adam doesnt want to.
I’ll do it. Are you in a rush? I have a raptor 700 I’m awaiting rear axle parts for. Not that I couldn’t do the top end in 45 mins. 585-721-7092 shoot me a text.
no rush, the atv is at my cabin in Ellecitville anyways. ill be up there this weekend for one last beating then ill be carting it home. like i said the only problem is that the PO said the head was bored so we would have to take a look b4 i or we order anything. i can do all the ordering then have the parts shipped to you?
Worst case scenario you could pick up a used cylinder at stock bore size off eBay for next to nothing and have it bored to what you would like, just to reassure that you aren’t gonna run into problems. I would actually suggest that because the cylinders tend to wear as fast as the rings do.
Had one of these in my family for years, I know my way around them pretty good of either of you have any questions about it.
OP I also have a fairly new FMF exhaust system, and some other aftermarket odds and ends laying around if ya have any interest.
Thats fine with me, I’ll just measure it up and see how far over it is. I highly doubt its out of round. I have connections at don georges and have the 2012 ATV book at my house if you want to check over your choices.
What kinda aftermarket stuff birdman? It alrdy had an fmf. Going stock cylinder might be a good idea. I only picked up the blaster for $400 and only put a coil on in the while iv had it. Send me a pm when you have some free time TSI, and we can go over a parts list. So I can start getting parts
Not saying that it’d be out of round, however the cylinders tend to wear fast and typically need another bore at each rebuild because the ring end gap will be out of spec, creating the same low compression oil blow-by that he is having now.
Just my .02, with the amount of readily available cheap parts for these things it would be worth it to me to start fresh…
I’m fine with starting fresh. For the price I paid I don’t mind spending a little extra cash. Bird are there any brands that are better then others for a rebuild? Or should I stick with oem yamaha parts? Also if it’s not asking to much do you have a link of parts needed? Send me a pm and mYbe we can work something out. What parts do you have laying around.
Common is .10 or .20 over. Pro x is probably your best bang for your buck if your not racing and what not, hell you could probably just get away with a re-ring
