Just don’t be stupid and you won’t have said issue. I’m sure an SUV would still result in a shitty day if you hit it hard enough. I can’t imagine being so fucking stupid that a semi out brakes me and I hit it. Or don’t see it and I hit a stopped semi.
Lesson of the day:
Make sure you are following DIRECTLY behind the semi to avoid death and maximize slipstream-induced mpg.

My friend and his wife passed away in an accident like this. Closed casket. I give semis all the space they need.
years ago before my turbo SHO was turbo I almost slammed into a semi in a construction zone. I remember watching that bar on the trailer go way up my hood but because my car was low and I was 100% brake I never made contact with it. I was shitting bricks after that moment, and have never put myself in a situation like that since. This was probably in 2004 i would guess. it was never a thought in my mind that the A pillars would have been the first significant contact point then my face.
I just want to point out that they crash a lot of chevys to make that video.

Typically if you hit the side you will be swerving at an angle which would totally change the impact.
