Ohio doesn’t report to NY unless you don’t pay the ticket. No points transfer, even then it’s just a “Pay Ohio or we’ll suspend your license” NY only cares that someone gets money, doesn’t care about points unless it’s from Ontario or Quebec (only places that points transfer to NY from, explain that one).
Neither does, PA, VA, GA, MA, ND, SD, ID, CO, UT, VT, MD, FL, TX, AZ, NV, MO, IN, IL and a few other states I’ve probably forgotten. Ask me how I know.
That’s always seemed odd to me too. No agreements with bordering states, but we’ll share traffic violation info with a bordering COUNTRY?
What further pisses me off is they’ll share traffic points on my drivers license but to fish on the Canadian side of the Niagara River I have to go buy a Canadian fishing license. No reciprocal agreement there of course, even where the border isn’t marked.
Don’t know how much truth behind it but I heard now-a-days the DMV’s are on one system and if you get a ticket in another state, your home state may assess the penalty of points in accordance with the home states laws.
I got a ticket in FL 4 years ago and paid it (70-45) and got no points and is not on my NY driving record. But what I expressed at first is supposedly a new thing from the past year
NY ONLY accepts points from Ontario and Quebec, they accept vehicular manslaughter, DUI, DWI from any state in the Union. They DO NOT ACCEPT POINTS FROM ANY OTHER STATE. They do not accept points from the Interstate Driving Compact (though they do send their tickets to certain other states).
I don’t know how many ways I can write this, seeing as how I’ve actually dealt with it in most states.
What about if you have points on your license in florida, then move to NY, and get a NY drivers license. Is your record erased? Insurance is unaffected?
