Picked up a ticket in Ohio over the weekend. If I plead guilty and pay the fine, will the points transfer to NY?
Been a while since I looked into it so things could have changed but from what I understand the only points that transfer are drug or alcohol related. So unless it was DUI or something retarded like that you shouldn’t have anything to worry about.
:tinfoilhat: Umm, it’s 2008, everything transfers everywhere.

As usual, AWD’s tinfoil hat is on too tight.
No point transfer for out of state tickets, unless alcohol or drug related.
The exception being Quebec and Ontario, where points do transfer over even for minor traffic violations.
Specifically:
If I get a ticket for a moving violation in another state, do I receive points on my NYS driver license?
The NYSDMV does not record out-of-state violations committed by NYS drivers in other jurisdictions. The exceptions are alcohol-related violations, drug-related violations, and moving violations committed in Quebec or Ontario. Under special agreements, traffic convictions in Quebec or Ontario are recorded on NYS driver license records and carry points. Except for violations in Ontario and Quebec, points are not added to your NYS record for out-of-state violations.
Jay and Newman are correct. I’m still a little unsure if your insurance carrier can find out though.

Anyone tell Layzie?
any border states transfer.
However if you dont pay it they will suspend your nys license. I speak from experience.
I have heard of the bordering states and up to 3 states away transferring points but according to the quote above posted by newman, they shouldn’t.
again, I speak from experience at one time i had 16 points on my license and still had a valid license.
Points from ontario show up but they do not affect your license, so really i had 10 US points and 6 canadian.
The judge looked at me and scowled. Some how I don’t think he was amused.
Ontario is not a border “state” Don
Bordering STATES do no transfer. Ontario, despite the way most people in WNY treat it, is not a state.
Well then they shouldn’t be allowed to vote!
I realize this, it was two seperate statements.
…
Everything transfers- I heard some guy in rochester got the herp and it transfered to a whole forum in buffalo
typically ohio structures their tickets around $$$, first one is just for the revenue and you’re on probation. next one they throw the book at you. been through it before back in 01’. father drives truck and told me the same thing. out of state tags mean a quick buck for them as they don’t expect you to fight it.
Anyone know if the rules have changed in the last 4 years? I just got a 17 over. Fucking 55 to a 35 zone and of course he was sitting there waiting for someone to miss the sign.
Also, does insurance find out about the violation?
So I won’t be able to drink, text, and run someone down in another state and get away with it. Damn.
I’ll take option C, the JayS fencesitter special for $500 Alex. Add nothing to the conversation and post 15x that I’ll wait for the investigation or for a group of 12 batshit retarded jurors to decide my opinion for me.
