i’ve heard from some people that because it has been so warm lately, the lake is extremely warm and completely thawed. supposedly, because of these conditions, that means a VERY early spring is in store. im really hoping this is true, because i really want to drive my truck. mayb i’ll even be able to get it out in mid march rather than april. we’ll see.
wouldnt that make for more lake effect snow?
or if we have a sudden cold snap it can result and a massive lake effect snow storm
^
someone passed earth science
it does mean that i can start diving in the lakes earlier this year.
im no meteorologist, but thats just what i heard.
LOL
that would suck…
honestly I wouldnt care at all
Lol, yeah screw spring, I’m still looking to dodge Winter! I’m sure were gonna get pounded soon! THENNNNNNNNN We can think spring! lol
somehow i went through school without ever taking that.
im hoping for at least 2’ during the next storm!
fuck that, i hate brushing my car off. when you open the door snow falls in the car, and that really chaps my ass
thats what god made sleeves for
I can’t wait to bump this thread in March
AMEN
screw an early spring … gives me more time to come up with with excuses why my car isnt on the road yet
Personally, it grinds my gears.
i was watching the weather channel about a week ago and they said that because of the Pacific currents this this year that our region might see a couple more cold spirts of like 2-3 days but mostly stay above normal temperatures and not much snow at all
HAHAHA
family guy…rules.
the weather has been unusually mild, but that by no means would dictate or suggest an early spring, or that winter is over
if trends continue it’s possible to have an earlier than average spring but that is still months away, there are many factors that are involved. if i get time i will look at the long range NAO, PDO and ENSO predictions and see what the output suggests as far as a long term weather outlook
if the lake stays ice free, that gives us a chance for lake effect snow all season long. a critical element for lake effect snow is there must be a temperature difference between the air at the 850mb height and the lake temperature of at least 13*celcius. (not including a bunch of other variables for optimum lake effect conditions)
whoever told you that was spewing random facts out of their ass, there is no way to say we will have an early spring because the lake isnt frozen yet,
the following graph shows a typical “lake season” for lake erie and the buffalo area. notice the lake doesnt typically freeze untill the end of Jan.
the next graph shows data for the fall and winter of 2005/2006, it doesnt look like the data has been updated yet but you can see the lake temperatures in 2005 compared to the average, and if you look back towards jan/feb of 2005 you can see that the lake finally froze at the end of jan. / beginning of feb.
the follow shows lake erie’s water temp on jan 16th in the eastern basin. as you can tel the temps average in the mid to upper 30’s
hope this cleared up any confusion
Come on, you live in WNY and it’s barely halfway through Jan, you are thinking about spring?
:lmfao:
It’s been 70 down here tho
^ not for me it didn’t. why is “Frozen Lake” in the “Warm lake” section?
