First, you spend $3000 EASY, probably twice that, just to get the bike, the license and the minimum gear.
Second, by the time you account for rainy days, or days where it threatens rain that you won’t commute with the bike you might get 4 months worth of commuter riding in a year.
15000/miles a year (higher than average) /12 * 4 months = 5000 miles worth of commuter riding.
25 mpg @ 3.70 = $740.
55mpg @ 3.70 = 336.
You saved $400 in gas and it will take you 7.5 years to pay off your bike investment of 3k. Figure 10+ years when you factor in registration and insurance on the bike. Probably 15+ if the bike needs super and your regular car runs on regular.
