starter motor?

today i decided to clean my throttle body and intake manifold, so i take out my ratchet and start unbolting the t/body, while doing this i accidently tapped the positive terminal on my optima battery and made sparks fly :frowning:
so i panic a little and then figure im this far might as well continue and hope i didnt short anything. so i finish cleaning the t/body and some of the turbo piping so i throw everything back together and try to start er up
the car doesnt turn over (actually doesnt even try, starter makes no noise) and the ign pump relay is vibrating and making some noise…
the car can be bump started and runs fine after sooo… im thinking it could be the relay or the starter motor has siezed up…

just looking for some input thanks

adam

the fuse should have cought it before you shorted the motor.
check em all then ohm out the motor with a meter.

ok i got a relay from the junk yard its a differant color (blue instead of green, the only differance on the relay is that the green one has a line with an “m” ontop and the blue one has a swirl through the line)

now when i tap the starter with a hammer it makes a really fast clicking, zinging noise. before it just clicked once it almost sounds like its unseizing, how hard should i be hitting it?

could touching the posistive terminal also have killed my battery?
keep in mind this was a brand new optima red top

ive tried charging the battery but when charging the amps on the charger jump from 2amps to 8-9 amps, is it suppose to jump or should it be steady?

thanks for the help

OK problem solved, turned out that that realy was the problem, went to a further junk yard and got the proper relay form a 240 and she started up just fine, just fine minus the aggresive banging on the starter

thanks for the info
