thats sorta my point also…sivrhnd is making a point that field conditions r part of the game…which i understand to a certain point. yeah greenbay in the winter is an advantage, or whatever…even certain teams like if miami (assuming they were good and had to play us in the afc title game) had to come here in december…thats one thing…but field prep is a totally different subject. precipitation is an issue here…and they play amillion games on there (at all levels) and it gonna get tore up bad. if we r gonna have high school, college and NFL playing on the field, and its gonna be raining/snowing this time of year…then why r they under the impression that the ‘field turf’ is gonna hold? let the weather affect the field conditions and help us (steelers) out this time of year, but poor field prep is something that shouldnt happen.
you can’t prep a field that sees that much action. they know its gonna get tore up, but its mostly NFL players cryin about it. there is no way around it. The last thing i gotta say concerning the HS games is: i’m not saying the PA kick off classic needed to be played there but the 5 championship games (wpial and city) do need to played there. Its was never a problem for 3 rivers and just because of grass it shouldn’t be an issue now.
Obviously you have never played football.
Offensive players always have the advantage on a sloppy field cause they know where they are going, defensive backs have a lot harder time reacting to someone who knows where they are going. Defensive linemen have a harder time getting upfield as well to get any rush, so a lot of the advantage is on the offensive side of the ball in bad weather games.
Absolutely incorrect…
Fields have soft sports, puddle areas all of that that you know by heart, shit the Boston Celtics court has damn dead spots in it that would cause you to lose a dribble in basketball…
Wind/Weather is part of the conditions of the field, the field was in bad shape cause of the # of games played in a short amount of time, combined with the assload of rain and shitty weather we have had of late…
congratulations…thanks to you, everything makes sense.
i just picked 2 positions at random to prove my point…i dont think anyone is talking about wether offense or defense has an advantage in bad field conditions, r we??? so what r u trying to prove?
You sir are a fucktard…
You know where the bad spots in the field are at, sprinklers, puddles, if the hash is soggy run down it, anything and everything you know about the field now becomes an advantage. I would say use your brain but thinking doesn’t seem like a strong point to you. Remember just cause you can’t figure it out doesn’t mean someone else hasn’t figure out that home field advantage has more advantages than just fans and being home…
EDIT: BTW not all teams have an equal home field advantage, one of the biggest I can think of is GB with their frozen field in the winter… You know Favre is like 36-1 when the temp is below 32 degress at the start of the game…
That’s damn impressive…
ok. i think u took every point i made the wrong way, but ok whatever. i see what u r sayin…my whole point is that there r too many games being played at heinz this time of year. and while weather and such can be an advantage to us, a beat ass tore up field due to over usage, rather than weather alone, doesnt help either team. no matter if u know the field better on not…footing is gonna be terrible at heinz for everyone on it, and it can affect both teams in a negative way. so why dont u just take what im sayin for what its worth, not an attack on your points…and settle your ass down
the field conditions will only benifit the steelers in the long run should they continue to win, they will be used to it by the time the playoffs come around. Should they play a team like san diego the field could be the reason the steelers win.
you brought up a good point about having too many games this time of year. Well they know every year that the WPIAL is playing 4 games. so why not schedule more home games in better weather. The NFL doesn’t seem to have a problem with the field conditions and thats who its ultimately up to. but this is a big issue with the pirates, they have to many of our games in april in september when they knwo the weather in the northeast is shot then they wonder why our attendence is so bad in those months.
H/S KIDS there just happy playing on an NFL field!
exactly. NFL players forget that used to be them.
hell yeah…and they deserve to also…but it just sucks that so many games get played in such a short time. and when u combine that w/ the shitty weather this time of year…there is almost no way to repair ‘field turf’, w/ Pitt, Steelers etc all tearin it up…so lets just blame the weather, because no grass is gonna root and stay put this time of year around here.
see they played on good feilds & didnt get hurt so they could turn pro!
the wolvearena is completly brown and i’m not talking about the fan/players either. simple solution, heinz needs GURF = grassy turf
Turf sucks period…
Espicially when it freezes over or rains and you just scrape off loads of skin layer by layer…
not gurf, gurf is totally different. turf was very fine and was pretty much layed over asphault with minumal padding. gurf is for lack of a better word, fluffy, its usually had a base underneath made of recyled tires and sand. We used the stuff for our tee’s at the golf course i worked at because the stuff is durable. A lot of HS use gurf because its so durable, usually more than football will use a HS field. Dallas cryboys have Gurf as do many other teams. For baseball gurf doesn’t make sense but for porblems like here in pittsburgh for football it does.
What’s wrong with a mudd/snowy/rainy field, come on guys it’s football… nothing wrong with a little slop…
hey i totally agree with you on that. Thats just the compromise for the people who have a serious problem with it. Slop is fun to play in.
gotta have snow!like the denver game sunday night! :boink
