big games are the measure between champs and chumps, compare cowher’s first 10 play off games to noll’s . Cowher’s record in the afc championship is 1-4, thats horrible. Cowher gets conservative like his teacher marty shettehiemer who has never won an AFC championship and has lost several. Watch the 86 afc championship between denver and cleveland. cleveland couldn’t hold the led because they got consevative and went into prevent. Marty was the head coach and cowher was a coach on that team as well. cowher has only been a part of teams thats haven’t won jack shit. division championships make nice banners but Rings and vince lombardi trophies are what matter.
what i think about his character doesn’t matter but those “rah rah” guys like cowher aren’t usually good head coaches. Ditka was an awful coach that ended up with good players, anyone else could have coached that team to more SB’s as good as they were and buddy ryan was the real man behind the 85 bears. guys like noll, walsh, shula, didn’t exactly try to be buddys with their players, didn’t get all over emotional, they were just great football minds. Cowher is too up and down, he puts too much into pumping guys up rather than preparing them technically.
slim to none to win the divison. but to get in as a wildard team we pretty much gotta run the table and get some help from teams like kc and sd losing. but we have a ‘easier’ schedule than those teams do.
thats only two games. we lost 3 other ones. steelers lost the 76 afc championship cause franco, rocky, and frenchy were out…thats a good reason, not to keep blaming the Qb’s. the SD game shouldn’t have been that close, we were out coached by bobby ross. well almost lost to indy, we were way better than them too. It comes down to coaching. coaching made terry bradshaw a hall of famer, coaching made joe montana a hall of famer.
ya, i agree with ya in most of ur areas, but come on, joe montana had raw talent, great skill, something that cant be teached, he came back against marino, and soo many others to win games, montana has great skill, and the will and drive to win
kordell had raw talent. you can’t say that guy wasn’t a freak the way he could do it all… I feel that he was coached horribly and then the “other stuff” started to come out. Look at the teams who have done well in this league. they mostly do so with consistency at the QB position. look at all the QB’s we’ve had under cowher!! bubby, neil, tomczak, kordell, tommy, ben. I think we all soon forgot that kordell was mike vick like 7-8 years ago. I also think cowher doesn’t maximize what he has. did anyone see the denver game, they put in their back QB for a play and split jake plummer out wide… just the threat of using randel el or heinz that way would control who ever is on the other side of the ball. you don’t even have to run trick plays, randel el could hand off. you got three QB’s on the field! Open it up. Conservative play calling will get you exactly what its got him so far…nothing!
noll lost to the raiders in oakland without his 1,2 and 3 RB’s, lost to miami team that went undefeated and lost to a dolphin team the year Danny had like 48 TD’s
cowher’s only good loss if you could call them that was denver and dallas. the better teams won those days. we lost to a pathetic chargers team and almost lost to a more pathetic colts and there’s no way we should lost two more to the pats at home…AT HOME!!!
here the big point, chuck noll took over the worst team in football. cowher took over a team that had all the right players in place, lake, woodson, lloyd, dawson, jackson, anderson, nickerson, eric green, etc…
