stilumus check was rip off

I just did my taxes and all of you should be prepared to be screwed, I got 600 for the economic stimulus check last year as did my bf and when we did our taxes they made us put in how much we got, and guess what how much we got lowered the amount we are getting for taxes this year ! so more or less the stimulus check was just a loan !!! I should of never cashed it, the gvment is a big piece of shit :bh: this gvment really sucks and makes me want to move away

fo realz? thats pretty homosexual… I didn’t get a “stilumus” or a stimulus check, so no worries here

Yeah that definitely didn’t happen for me, you’re supposed to have a $600 credit, when I put in my taxes it asked if I got a stimulus, asked how much i got, there was a box that said i had a $600 credit, I put in that I received $600 and it zeroed itself out, didn’t effect my return in the least.

You are filing seperate, right?

I never got one last year… Woo Hoo!

I file head of household

It shouldn’t reduce your tax at all… the stimulus check is a non taxable item received encouraging Americans to spend money… it shouldn’t be included in your taxable income on your tax return…

well for some reason it took money from me and Im not to thrilled about it

Well it’s wrong, hopefully you didn’t file it yet…

i agree, it shouldnt have affected how much your return was. and even still 600 dollars more in earned income is only like 10 bucks in more taxes. so if you think you shouldnt have cashed it then your def wrong. rich people are paying for it dont worry.

I didnt even get one…

i got one last year…i havnt gotten my w2’s yet i better not get fucked

cause your parents probably calimed you…

same thing happend with me… even thou they werent supposed to

Are you sure? Right in the paper work with the check when you got it there was a form stating to be sure to file it in your '09 taxes as income? Maybe I’m remembering this wrong?

you DO need to claim it on your taxes, but you should have a CREDIT for whatever it is you got back! meaning you DO claim it but should NOT get taxed on it.

ya dig?

I havent gotten my w2’s yet either

i owe a few hundred to the Fed’s

Some general info from the IRS.

lol yes she’s sure… she does it every day for a living, along with the other 6 CPAs she works with who have way more experience than her that she goes to with questions.

Wow, yeah, no. Tax code is hard to understand and it wasnt a loan… we’ll, not the way you mean. It was a loan in that the government borrowed the money from China to give it to you today, so your kids will be paying it back someday…

The reason they ask you to include your stimulus payment (as a memo not included in your income) is to assess whether you received the full amount or not. If you did not receive the entire amount last year (600/1200) etc. you could get a CREDIT for the difference.

Example above:
You did not claim yourself last year, so you never received your stimulus check. You enter zero as the amount received.
This year you should receive a credit for that amount (probably $600), reducing whatever you owe at year end.
