Stock KA24DE drifting?

Hey,

I was just wondering, how solid of a motor is a KA24DE? Could a KA24DE with say, 250,000 KM, still be a good drift motor? Or with that high KM are you in serious risk of blowing it up?

You can drift with anything. More power makes for good wheel spinning… but you can still get your car sideways with a stock KA.

Im not so much worried about power, as the fact that the motor might let go…

Well, I just sold my KA24DE to Flavio the other day. He opened the valve cover and it’s apparently the cleanest engine he has seen to date. Also it has 27X,XXX KM’s on it. I didn’t know it was in such good shape.

Mine has around that milage on it. You’ve ridden shotty with me a few times whilst drifting and you know I am NOT kind to that engine. She still runs like a champ. I got it tuned up when I bought the car now all I have to do is fill it with fresh 5w30 on a regular basis and all is well.

Just don’t hold it at redline, maintian it properly and it’ll take almost anything you throw at it :stuck_out_tongue:

While it was a good indication on your engine health when you dynoed and didnt puff any smoke.

KA’s are bricks and only the wise know it.

Its will blow up if you rev past 4000RPM, get an SR20 and stretch some 185’s on some 10’s and you will be good to go.

You can drift anything man, its all about driver skill and suspension set up. Power makes things easier but its not necessary, you wont be doing much 3rd gear on a stock KA though, lol…

I constantly take mine up to redline ( 7g) dont stay there though.

All depends on previous owners and how they have cared for the engine and havn’t been lazy about maintaining it. I picked up a cheap car and its got nothing maintanence wise done it, by the time I finsih it, it’ll still be a 3000 dollar with 1000 dollars already put into it :E

the KA24DE would be fine. put some sway bars and try to find an LSD and 4.36 final drive. you’ll be competing with corollas for sure.

Ugh, I can’t stand kicking my clutch mid-drift. Maybe mid-transition but not mid-drift. It’s all about entry speed, baby! 8)

Meh, gotta do whatcha gotta do… :lol: Every once in a while you’ll even catch me doing some clutch kicking when i gotta get that big old turbo spooling in a hurry.

i am under the impression that you atleast need a lsd , is that rite?
