c’mon now, not everything ages as gracefully as a Honda. These cars are like women. They are just attention whores, and it gets worse with age. At least now you don’t have to wait for a turbo to spool to have some semblance of torque. :tup:
I would never buy a pre-99 VW for a DD because of their reputation for little BS (like doors not latching in the cold :mamoru: ) always going wrong. I love my MKIV DD though. Those heated leather seats get me to work comfortably every day. I’m addicted to the VR6 growl and how (with a CAI) you can really hear the VGI change the length of the intake mani at ~3800 rpm. It’s not “fast” but it pulls hard enough to be fun. Handles decent for weighing 3k, really comfortable, decent Monsoon system. The damped oh-shit handles are a nice touch. Heated side view mirrors are great when we actually have winter. Plus it’s nice that my DD is one of the safest small cars in crash tests and safety features. I don’t have to worry much about the body rusting since the whole thing was galvanized before it was painted.
I gotta laugh at the Karma jokes but it sounds like the car was neglected, so I’m guessing that after an anal-retentive car owner such as yourself (I think, right?) owns it for a few months and work the bugs out it will probably be pretty reliable.
Then a coilpack will take a shit.
