Subaru RWD coupe will be sold worldwide

It’s alive again:

“The last report about the on again/off again sports car being developed jointly by Toyota and Subaru was that it’s on again. Today comes word from L’Automobile in France that not only is the rear-wheel-drive Toyubaru going to happen, but it will arrive bearing the Celica name sometime in 2010”

They want a piece of the f-body/Stang market badddddddddd

Because fbods and stangs are well under 3k lbs

Disappointed about the no turbos bit, but it should be a fun little car. A step in the right direction at the very least.

Well, none of toyotas mid range sports cars ever weighed as much as f-bodies

kinda cool to see a rwd celica again , if it happens anyways

HAHAHAHAHAHA if u think toyo/subaru owners would ever drive a a stang or fbod or even want one.

You think this will be under 3000lbs

toyota said they were aiming for a lightweight coupe… so yea, i expect it to come in under 3k…

It wont be under but I bet damn close

I am willing to bet 3200-3300lbs…

I’ve owned a Toyota supra, and 2 Subaru’s. A WRX and a legacy. I drive an f-body, and it beats all of those cars hands down in my eyes. So don’t make stupid assumptions.

So no one else thinks it’s funny Toyota all of a sudden wants to introduce a cheap sports car into the market since GM started to get back into it? I’m saying from a purely marketing point of view, its obvious that Toyota wants to get a piece of the sports car market.

AKA look how hard Toyota tries to steal customers from GM in the truck+SUV market.

It’s just business.

when did GM get into the CHEAP sports car market?

Uhh since probably 1965 ish. Now they are even more, with the new camaro. It’s like 30k with an LS3 and even cheaper with a 300hp v6.

Cobalt SS?
I have never driven one but I hear for the coin they do pretty well for themselves.
Granted not RWD if you use that as a sports car qualifier

Point…Toyota’s do end up being kind of heavy, ignoring the MR2.

I’d love to own any LS1/WS6. Mustang, eh…a select few, it depends.

True!

fwd cars are not sports cars, they are sport compacts :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d swap my sti engine in this and put the na engine in my sti for daily driving.

i like this a lot, 220 hp with a 2.0 and no turbo, sounds good to me, just buy a turbo and put it on if you dont like it. lol

edit: instead of paying the extra for having the oem turbo if they made the option, now you can customize by putting the size turbo you would like in it.

 My thought exactly. Glad they choose the ITR for a benchmark…good thinking…
