Own a shop? … I do, kinda. Moved out of one shop in preparation for the other. The deal fell through on the second place because the floor wasn’t rated to support the weight of the dyno, so now I’m building engines in my living room until we find another spot. Luckily for me, the wife is cool with it. The business is DT Racing (www.getadomtune.com)
I don’t know what the vendor requirements are on this board so I don’t want to go advertising/promoting myself to much. I’m in Everett, Washington anyway, so I’m pretty far away and I doubt I’ll affect anyone else’s business around the 518.
I don’t understand why people bash a street tune. With a type of datalogging software, a WB02 and a person who knows what they are doing, what is diff? The diff is your actually moving putting realistic loads on a car that it is actually exposed to rather than sitting still in a dyno room with a fan blowing on it. Theres no wind resistance theres not as much air flow to the intercooler(in turbo cars), to me street tunes if done with someone who knows what they are doing would be more effective than a dyno tune.
this makes baby jesus cry… quite honestly… i cant name a single STi locally that has been built/modded that hasnt needed a built motor… jays, byrons, justins and of course mine… thank god pete got rid of his white one before that puked as well… if the trend continues my car will be going bye bye… especially with gas prices going up with no end to that in sight.
you obviously dont know anything about tuning. if you tune a car on a dyno you can hit every cell on a map, if you have tuned every cell then the car will always be within those parameters basically you have tuned every possible combination of rpm and load for the engine (some of which you may never hit on the street). street tuning isn’t bad at all, the only thing is you need to be conservative on the timing because you have no way to measure max brake tq. the argument about ppl have street tuned fast cars for years is true but the difference is the hp/liter a 5.7l making 500whp is way less likely to blow up than a 1.8l making 500whp. dynos are the new technology for tuning, compare it to fuel systems: is a carb better than a fuel injection system just because you can tune it with a screwdriver?
no… i would NOT be getting an evo… most likely id be getting something with less than 200chp, 4 cyl and 5/6spd … i have my eye on a few different cars. TSX, used SVT focus, 93 sentra SE-R (love for the sr-20), 99-00 civic si, and last but not least mini cooper S… requirements are 28+mpg and standard… and able to trade in STi on it.
dude why do u love goin upside down on loans you will be floored when ya hear whats its really worth not bein a ass but holy shit run what ya got stop fuckin yourself
you allready got so much into it dude, you might as well keep it. you know you wont get any of it back. thats why I’m probably not gonna build my car anymore. I think I’ve ditched the idea of an s.c, I’ll do a few baller mods and keep it as a daily, and actually be able to sell it down the road, this means I need a project, datsun sr20, or an build an old sbc :ponder
Fantastic post. I’ve always tuned on street and left a ton of power on table due to timing. Just kept it very conservative until I was on the dyno and could start adding at various cells and then the torque would jump through the roof.
people guess to what his power is, but he wont dyno it and confirm it. i dont blame him. somethings you are better left unknown. cant keep records if people have the same things you have.
