it’s not sealed… so it’s not track legal… so why are you even fucking around with it?
Is this necessary for street use? I have no intentions of ever taking my truck to a track. I will be building the box so sealed will be no problem. Also, that switch is 20 amps with a surge of 125… I have alot more current than that pumping to/from my battery… (200a alternator, air compressors, stereo equipment) so I assume the switch is just to activate some sort of relay?
yeah u dont need the switch unless u plan on going to the track !!!
For your battery cable setup i would suggest 2/0 welding cable ! from mcmaster.com cheap and very bendable !!!
Thanks for the info.
I’m having a brain fart - is solid copper wire more or less resistant than strands of copper?
8.1 crew/408 w/e his name is said the more strands normally the better and usually more plyable plus if you need to get it into the endlink hole its easier to cut a couple strands ! i got the reg welding cable ! not the fine strand one not the super fine strand wire ones
cool, thanks
…Now back to your regularly scheduled thread…
straight from summit:
our summit trunkmount battey kits has everything you need to move your battery
note: j-bolts must be welded closed and box mounted in an actual trunk to be legal fo competion…
all this info is on page 95 of the new catalog
the note is in the catalog not on the webpage
“When you need to move your battery for better weight distribution, or when you just want to get that professional look, pick one of Summit’s rugged marine polyethylene battery relocation kits.”
yeah ti says its legal for trunk i forgot i dont’ have a trunk, oh well i’m not ordering the moroso one i’m ordering the taylor one
i have that black summit box, the tech guy at PRP told me to get a cut off switch, and that was it.
Anyone think one switch is better then the other or does it even matter?
i like the flaming river one you can take the handle off
and you hook it up basicly inline with the hot/positive wire?
i tthink it goes on the ground
thats next on my list… and i hear the horror stories about it
u have to have it kill the power,u have to run ur alternater wire to it also,if u only kill the ground,ur alternater will still keep the car running!
hmmm…ok so the alt to the bat the bat to the switch the switch to the car power so if the switch is off the alt will still run the bat but not the car. right?
alt to switch, the car must shut off if switch is turned off!
The way i hooked up my battery shut of switch (moroso). You intercept the positive line running from the battery to starter. And to get it to actually shut off the car, instead of flippin the switch and having the alternator power the car… you run it like this
Battery to Starter
ALT to Battery
PDB (main distribution box/fuse box) to Starter
so i have to run a wire from my trunk to the ALT just like i have the hot wire running from the engine bay to the trunk?
