Surface rust on a valve body?!?

so I came across a TCI reverse manual valve body in my long lost boxO’parts still in the box but has a bit of surface rust on it. Have any of you guys ever bead blasted one? I dont want to ruin the mating surface but I hate to throw away a 230 dollar part because I left it get damp in my basement. Opinions ,tips?

soak it in oil make sure all the parts move after. glass bead is not harsh on surface but how about scratch pad to clean it up. is it surface rust or is it uniontown 69 nova rust?

if it was union town nova rust half the thing would be gone

lol it was from the parts from uniontown lol…yeah ill try soaking it first. My buddy at the machine shop says he has some stuff tht will fix it.alot of time castings come in with rust on them.

I agree with Jeff. Try oil first. I have a glass bead cabinet & different types of media. You are more then welcome to stop by.

The biggest concern with bead blasting it is making sure you get all of the medai out of the valve body. I did my carbs on the GTO & had idle issues. Turns out I had a small piece of media stuck in the idle tubes (which ar .030" diameter). You just have to make sure it is cleaned pretty good after blasting.

Before you oil it. Soak it in a solution of 50/50 vinegar and deionized water…for a day or two. It should come out clean after than. Old hotrod guy trick, I even saw it on that “Truckin” show recently. I called bullshit, but it worked for me!

NICE… thanks

I was going to say the samething but I thought I saw that on the speed channels truck u or 2 fags garage.
