Im doing a DIY switch panel for under my radio. I bought 4 switches that have little LED in then to let you know if its on or off. On the back of the switch there are 3 tabs.
Diagram on the back of the switches look like this:
Earth
Load
Supply
So my question is, How do I hook up one of these to say brake lights :snky:?
first cut ur brakelight wire. use the part coming from the brake system to hook into 12v in and the 12v out will continue the brakelight wire. ground is simple enough. the light for the led would only come on when the brake is pressed and the switch is on the on position.
Newman, you’re diagram is wrong, the brakes would only work when the switch is on, which I"m sure isn’t what he is going for. He wants to turn on the switch when he isn’t using the brakes. Easiest way is to use 2 sources for brake light power, then you just have a switch controlling the 12V, so either the brake pedal, or the switch provide pos 12V to the lights. Other option is a relay, but with more than what newman shows.
And in that case, you want Normally Closed so that the brakes work by default, flip the switch and they will be off. If you use a switch w/ a LED indicator to indicate when it’s made, hooking up the supply will be cause it to light up when it’s activated, and let you know when your brakes are “off”
I want to hook the switch up to my brake lights so that when the brakes lights are working, The LED is ON. When I switch them off then the Light goes off.
I also want to hook up my tail lights to a switch so that I can turn my tail lights off but keep my headlights on.
When you go flying by a cop who pulls a U turn, I dont think He likes to see you slam on your brake lights. With it on a switch, I can turn them off so that I can slam my breaks on and the lights wont come on.
Turning of the tail lights is self explanitory.
eh… chances are that if he is going to pull you over, he already has his mind wade up whether he see’s your brakes or not… Besides, are you really going to have the time to flip the switch then jam on your brakes? Chances are that your instint will take over before your insight…
I was thinking about this today… If I am going 100+ and the cop is at a stand still, is he really going to come after me? And if he does, what if I step on it and take it up to 120+? Will he follow? Its going to be like 30 seconds before he MATCHES my speed, and ATLEAST another minute before he can catch up. Hmmmm
