symptom's of botl stripping / tapping out a sucken in bolt.

hello,

today i was trying to fix my stupid turbo leak, i have the gaskets and was ready to install them, i start removing the nuts at the turbo flange where the leask is, 3 go off no problem 4th one starts getting tighter … and tighter (BTW, i have a jack under the downpipe to support weight). we got it almost off about 2/3 of the way and we just couldn’t move it anymore tonight. does this sound like a stripped nut? or whatelse could it be?

also if it comes down to it, i can access the top of the suncken-in bolt how would i tap it out, just get a hammer and a screwdrive ect. and wham bam it’s off?

thanks

`nik

Oh wow, watch you dont snap the bolt.

see i dont care if i snap the bolt, if i can get it out, the nut or bolt i have access to both sides and can put a new bolt through no problem!

but i need to get rid of it.

how do i tap it out?

then you’d have to drill it out… no fun at all

If he can get access to both sides then drillings no problem at all.

Just reef the hell outta the bolt.
Use lots of Liquid Wrench/WD40

i have no access to any power tools!

apparently they are not allowed in residence…

how about smashing it out?

Smashing it out wont work unless its just like 2mm deep.
I got many powertools only of you could get that piece to my house.

sure i’ll just drive it over, who cares i’ll get amazing performance without a turbo and the exhaust going straight under the hood.

… smashy smashy

look man, you have to use the nut to cut the threads, you’ve gotten to the point where all the threads on the nut are at parts of the stud that are corroded or dirt, re-tighten the nut and go down little by little, as it gets tighter, go back up a bit, keep repeating this process it will help cut little by little and more than likely the nut will come off. I hope you haven’t pushed too hard already and done any damage, if you have try to vice grip the studs off but that will be hard, good luck.

^^^^^^^ …dont forget to use lots of WD40 while youre doing that to help it off, and remove corrosion.

Well i’m on a bolt breakk right now, i wish i had known to tighten then loosen about 20min. ago, but i will try that soon, it got so tight that we stripped one side of the bolt.

why the fuck does my car hate me, it took me 6hours to remove the other one (which wasn’t stripped)

bah!

and theres no coolant in my resivour!!!

Did you find out where it was leaking yet?

its messed up, after the event i went with a group to boston pizza, when i came out it the missing coolant was gone, so i dunno???

anyways i have decided to hammer the bolt out, i work on it for about 10min. and got it a mm down, any help to make this go faster would be greatly appreciated! i cannot move the bolt either way because it is not only stripped by the threads but stripped on the head, either way i will need to get this bolt off.

so please

any advice out there?

Worst case scenario… bust out the dremel.

What you should have done instead of making it worse by hitting it and mushroming the theads is heated red hot with a torch and gone at it with vise grips, works every time.

with that said, what tools you need?
you’re like 20 min from my house at most.

Whats the word on this bolt Nik?

i’ll tell you later on saturday, right now i am hitting it hard.

Hitting what hard :stuck_out_tongue:

Ewww actually i dont want to know.

ill wait till sundays meet.

btw i wouldn’t be there if i can’t fix this  … well maybe not well see

THAT BIZATCH IS OFF!!!

and my turbo leak is no more!
