Synapse Motorsport Cobalt Development

We just received our Cobalt SS/TC today from the dealer. We bought this Cobalt because we saw a platform the has a lot of potential with some aftermarket development. With such a new platform there are a lot of challenges to overcome and we are eager to dig into developing high quality parts. We will start with the bolt ons everyone is looking for such as a downpipe, intercooler piping, upgraded intercoolers, etc. We dont plan on stopping there though, we intend to develop upgraded turbo kits as well for more power.

So with 37 miles on the clock we put the cobalt on the dyno to get a baseline before any modifications. The powerband is very impressive to say the least. The car seems to be underrated in power from the factory. The car layed down 262 ftlbs at the wheels, and 240whp.

Here are some pictures of our car, as well as a dynograph.

Wow impressive #'s. Is that a red interior is see? Looks great

told ya GM has a huge under rating on their vehicles from the factory…

those are great numbers…cant wait to see modded numbers!

rings arent even seated yet…if you were to put more miles on the car I bet it would end up with a few more ponies.

how much boost/what turbo??

Cool shit, this looks like its gonna be fun.

I wish Brewer was on this forum to post his dyno graph from Moon on their Mustang so you can see how much of a difference there is between how the 2 dyno’s read…

Found his post on rSpeed from the dyno day…his car put down 188whp. With some mods. Yeah…

is his the 2.0turbo ecotec or the supercharged one? the cobalt SS/SC was 205hp rated vs the 08 SS/TC’s 260hp rating… lets not start a mustang vs dynapack war…

from the looks of it, they both lost close to 20hp from the crank, to the wheels… seems quite even to me.

Impressive baseline numbers.

yea those r some nice numbers there nice cars i took one for a test drive at denooyer

Take it to the track and see what she runs. Who owns the car?

Trade in the Civic Si on it?

We got rid of the si about a year ago, as Hondata never came out with a proper ems.

Join the club. I wanted a big turbo Si. Morgan they were Great DD’s though. :banana

A baseline run at the track would be tight. Tomorrow would be nice if the weather holds out.

i would say to put your foot in your mouth, but i think its still in there from the last time you opened it, i suppose you could try to fit the other one in there though. why dont you read before you attempt to belittle our dyno readings. as mk4 said this is a brand new turbocharged ecotec motor with a claimed 260hp/260ftlbs from the factory. regardless these numbers are just a reference to go from with our future mods. the actual numbers could read anything really.

i believe crazybrew dyno’d on our dyno as well, why not just ask him how it compared.

Brewer’s Redline is the s/c’d 2.0L Ecotec…

i am actually losing hp with my 3" exhaust i have on the car i’m not making enought power yet to make it a helpful mod, now once i find someone to tune the car then it’s a different story… blah blah blah

anyway the s/c motor is a different animal to the ss/tc. i have an LSJ engine as the ss/tc has an LNF, the heads are completely different and the lnf has vvt as well as direct port injection (2500 psi of fuel pressure) the cars are amazing and have a ton of technology to help it’s numbers on the dyno and at the track (it has a section in the software to allow the drive to no lift shit the car and not hurt anything)

anyway i have never dynoed at morgans and i would love to if he wants once i get tuned so he can see how much of a difference is. My mods are pretty common for the lsj’s and i should be around 270ish which is where most people with this car are… morgan if you have hptuners let me know cause i would love to get a tune ASAP if you want to compare stuff with the car thats fine, plus i have ben thru training on this motor already since it’s in the sky redline so i know most of the inner workings

all in all great pick up and i’m looking forward to seeing what this bad boys going to do, oh and FYI start by tweaking the wastegate acuator rod to get an easy 3psi more out of the turbo ::slight_smile: but i didn’t say it

our hptuners suite is on the way should be here tomorrow or friday. i thought your redline was on the dyno one time, must have been a different redline.

hey mike, whats the fuel injection on these? direct fuel injection like the vw/audi FSI motors? whats the turbo on it? the one like the sky redline which is the twinscroll k04

it is a direct injection system, it has an intank pump, and a mechanically driven high pressure pump. it is a twin scroll turbo, i beleive k04 but we arent sure yet.
