System Admin Opening at BCBS...

We haven’t had many hits on this, but thought I’d drop it here to see if anyone was interested. Basically the position is listed at a System Administrator I but if you have the experience could be a II. Ideally someone with a decent (2years for a level 1) UNIX background that we can train, one of the core expectations for this job is backup administration too.

If anyone is interested goto bcbswny.com > careers and look for System Admin I and apply.

Here is the contents from the post.

DrDos would totally be perfect for this position. Just ask LZ for a reference.

oh lord…

Sorry, I will give myself an infraction but I had no choice.

Hmm nice

I’d like to apply for System Admin 1, but I doubt I’m qualified enough :frowning:

BCBS is a good place to work for!

Any estimate on the salary range?

I know the pay grade but they don’t publish the salary ranges for us. I am a System Admin II and my range is low end of 50, midpoint of 75 and max out at 99. The level 1 is the paygrade below me, so if i had to guess i’d say low end mid 30’s, midpoint 55 and max around 75.

We have excellent benefits and manthetank is right, they are one of the best places to work for in this area.

One more thing to add, lots of longevity here. In our department there are quite a few 20yr people here. I am the newest person in the department (2yrs in March)

Lol oh dear god.

Holy crap your levels have a huge range.

who knows i could way off, but I am fairly certain that is about right, a admin 1 though i don’t see getting hired for more than mid 50’s and more realistically in the mid 40’s, due to experience.

Shhhhhh never admit that. Apply then own that shit like a boss. If all else fails prepare a statement demanding Becks and just scream about China or something.

Got a resume, you can send it to me. I can tell you if you’d be able to adjust to the position.

If it helps…I am a fairly established working professional and would hire ProgRocker any day of the week. Great guy.

Always get in over your head then figure it out lol

A lot of companies hire you on your ability to learn since most companies have some sort of weird configuration built by some local expert.

Is that why no one in that industry seems to know WTF they are doing? They ALWAYS blame it on the last guy to work on it. ALWAYS.

It usually some combination of having no idea what they’re doing or they do but the company doesn’t value IT and won’t give them time to do it properly.

It was nice being at TWC and seeing a proper change management policy among other polices that kept things in check.

The other factor is the size of the clients your dealing with 1-50 servers and 1-3 IT staff companies are cheap.

Hey we want someone with all these skills, 5 years of experience, and a 4 year degree but we want to pay 35-40k

I too would like to apply, where I’m at now there is no advancement.

x2

I have to update mine. If you’re on LinkedIn I keep that fairly up-to-date.

I appreciate that. I would never go into an interview saying I suck at everything, but if asked I don’t bullshit and I’ll say “I don’t have much experience with {whatever}, but I learn things fast”.

Thanks for the heads up Glenn, applied.
