What are some of the responsibilities and requirements?

Sounds like it was a hell of a lot better than what you would have been doing at Comcast.

Job requirements and responsibilities?

i’m just gonna pull some shit straight from my resume.

 On-site Resident Technician for PA Department of Transportation Engineering District Offices 1-0 in Oil City, PA, and 10-0 in Indiana, PA
 Configure, manage, maintain, troubleshoot and support over 120 CADD workstations running Win XP SP 3, four servers running Win Server 2003 (2 file servers/2 plot servers), nine laptops running Win XP SP 2, several printers and plotters, and networking hardware and software
 Diagnose hardware failure and then contact Pomeroy, HP, DELL, OCE or IBM for vendor specific hardware replacement
 Respond to end user system, software, and/or hardware errors and resolve
 Analyze information and submit problem reports that entail problem observed and procedures to reconcile
 Use Symantec Norton Ghost to image workstations
 Install software on workstations using Systems Management Server 2003
 Place RFID tags on new hardware and scan into database
 Receive new hardware, retire old hardware and move hardware as needed
 Keep up-to-date inventory of CADD equipment by utilizing the RFID Inventory Tracking system, Crystal Reports and Excel spreadsheets
 Perform backups and restores on file server using Veritas Backup Exec 9.1 on a daily, weekly and monthly schedule
 Swap off-site full backup tapes for each district and keep in my possession
 Create and update technical documentation for end-user questions and support
 Create how-to documents for installing new software
 Assembled new IBM server rack and installed new IBM servers and an IBM tape backup system
 Maintain and manage the Intranet CADD Support web site

 Actively take part in monthly CADD meetings and provide recommendations per CADD Support request
 Present written and verbal technical information to management and end users in a comprehensible manner

…and all general IT related tasks. Each Penndot office has their own IT group for their side of things, but for CADD I am the one and only “CADD guy” for both of these districts. For CADD they run Microstation, but you do not need to know the application…that’ll come with time. In Montoursville, District 3-0, there is a central CADD Support team and the person to take this job works for them basically. to do the leg work on-site; the break/fix stuff, software loads, etc.

anymore questions, please ask.

yes, comcast blew a big one

oh and someone is needed ASAP…JAN 5TH start date. the 2nd is my last day.

Hmmm, I’ll update my resume in the next couple of days and send it over. I’ve worked with some of the IT people in Montoursville through e-mail for various things in the past. I am familiar with Microstation and all of the PADOT LRFD programs. Please tell me you don’t work with AutoTAB though. I despise that program, haha.

Thanks for the heads up.

since you have a connection with some of those folks then i’m sure you’d have a great chance. Ah Autotab haha! Yes they indeed use that app here and yes everyone else hates it too.

I hate being in school. All this crap for a lame piece of paper when I could be working.

i hear ya man. but that piece of paper can get you more money. even though you acquire more debt paying off the loans. funny how that works.

hey man, who were the folks you worked with out there in Montoursville? I know them all personally and professionally so if you’re really interested then i can really get the ball goin for ya.

I can’t say this enough… I hate that my Associate’s Degree that I wasted so much money on is basically useless and now I have to go back to school.

Patricia Quinn because of AutoTAB problems. A McKissmith (forget actual spelling) also. There were a few others with PennDOT engineering software but I don’t know what office they were from specifically.

Oh yeah, Trish Quinn. She’ll drink anyone under the table I guarantee it ha! She’s the AutoTab “master” persay. Mike McKissick is the CADD Manager. He’s a funny old bastard. If you’re on good terms with them then I’d say you have a good shot at getting this job if you want it.

the job is still open if anyone is interested. pm me for more details or if you want me to submit your resume.

so quit and get a job.

I have nothing but a high school diploma and a few certs.

i don’t even bother with certs…

my company likes them because they can charge higher rates. I just go take the certs when they ask.

hold out… get the piece of paper and pass on the 39k jobs.
