Configure, manage, maintain, troubleshoot and support over 120 CADD workstations running Win XP SP 3, four servers running Win Server 2003 (2 file servers/2 plot servers), nine laptops running Win XP SP 2, several printers and plotters, and networking hardware and software
Diagnose hardware failure and then contact Pomeroy, HP, DELL, OCE or IBM for vendor specific hardware replacement
Respond to end user system, software, and/or hardware errors and resolve
Analyze information and submit problem reports that entail problem observed and procedures to reconcile
Use Symantec Norton Ghost to image workstations
Install software on workstations using Systems Management Server 2003
Place RFID tags on new hardware and scan into database
Receive new hardware, retire old hardware and move hardware as needed
Keep up-to-date inventory of CADD equipment by utilizing the RFID Inventory Tracking system, Crystal Reports and Excel spreadsheets
Perform backups and restores on file server using Veritas Backup Exec 9.1 on a daily, weekly and monthly schedule
Swap off-site full backup tapes for each district and keep in my possession
Create and update technical documentation for end-user questions and support
Create how-to documents for installing new software
Assembled new IBM server rack and installed new IBM servers and an IBM tape backup system
Maintain and manage the Intranet CADD Support web site
Unlock user accounts and reset passwords
Create batch files for various needs
Actively take part in monthly CADD meetings and provide recommendations per CADD Support request
Present written and verbal technical information to management and end users in a comprehensible manner
…and all general IT related tasks. Each Penndot office has their own IT group for their side of things, but for CADD I am the one and only “CADD guy” for both of these districts. For CADD they run Microstation, but you do not need to know the application…that’ll come with time. In Montoursville, District 3-0, there is a central CADD Support team and the person to take this job works for them basically. to do the leg work on-site; the break/fix stuff, software loads, etc.
