Taurus SHO

i located a couple 98~99 SHO’s. I’m trying to purchase another DD.

I believe Kawasaki makes the V8 in them???

any good/bad things to say about them?

they are good pretty quick if you get one in a 5speed manual. small v8 by Yamaha. 3.4l I think. just very expensive if parts break!

um the v-8 never came with a stick… the v-6 by yamaha was the only motor you could get with a stick. and they are nice cars. i like the mid 90’s one better then the newer ones. but still nice rides.

oh yeah i forgot they changed the body styles to the jelly bean in 97. i got my years mixed up. my bad! i gave some false information!

Ya um.thanks for geting back to me…

Anyway…90 and 89 had the Yamaha motor in it adn are the best ones for those years

theres a guy who lives by me, he’s got 2 jellybean styles. they both sound pretty good, but i think he has aftermarket exhausts on them.

sell me your syclone so then you can have the money for a SHO.

ive always like the SHO’s a fried of mine had an older one that used to rip. dont know how good they would be in the winter though.

I hear high 14s with a stick and v6

i still havent made any decisions.

i looked at this one just today, i’m going back tomorrow to drive it, they’re askin $6k

oh BTW, i’m not selling the Syclone til i buy a nice firehawk.

i read a couple things that said that you might have to weld the cams??? wtf??

The cam gears are just pressed on instead of bolted on (I believe) and after high mileage they start to walk off of the cams.

And for the record, the 3.2L Yamaha motor was in 1st/2nd gen SHOs from 89-95. The 3rd gen cars have the 3.4L V8 similar to the 3.9L found in the Lincoln LS/new Thunderbird etc.

yami motors were only in 89 n 90 from what i know of…

i always liked those

yeah from what i read the Yamaha V8s had the cam sprockets pressed on, with a ball bearing pressed into the hollow cam, to flare it out. and the cams had a tendency to walk. being that the engine has close tolerances the piston would hit th valves and blow. some owners had the cams welded, but i’ll check on this one. mileage is fair, so i dont think it has any problems … yet.

i’m going over to drive it, and check it out tonight.

BTW, the Yama V8 is 3.4L, put in the 97~99 SHOs

the V8 came in Auto only…& they are not that fast
the older body style with the V6 was faster.

put up similar numbers to my old SVT contour.
both high 14 low 15sec cars…SHO has an edge in straight line & SVT in the curves.

they are all like the ultimate sleeper. who would think a little 4door taurus would be fast or even a little econo box like the contour. especially from Ford…

its good enough for a DD. i wont be racing it or anything.

if you’re using it as a DD…

i would get get the earler V6 over a newer V8
and if you’re considering contour SVT
id go in this order

99-2000 SVT contour, early V6 SHO, 98 SVT contour, V8 SHO

onyl reason i’m giving the contour the edge is cause its newer. & personally i prefer a lot better handling car over a one that is slightly quicker in a straight line

my buddy has a 99 svt contour. i love that car ha.

woooh buddy does this thing move. from 0-45 it runs like balls, but 50+mph, HOLD ON.

its not LS1 kinda power, but its respectable.

the Yami V8 idles at about 600rpm, but shifts at 6800rpms, with redline at 7100rpms.

a 3 speed auto, and it still makes 28mpg highway, 20 city

the white makes it a po-po look-alike, but the polished wheels kinda give it away.

all-in-all, i am pleased with my purchase.
