Well it’s time to finally get out of the SHO game for good. This is my 4th and last one to go… it’s a black 89 that lived in Arizona until a few years ago. I got ahold of it and my buddy drove it for a year and then sold it back to me. I then did the engine and suspension swap, blower install, etc. Here’s the full rundown:
1989 Ford Taurus SHO
Body and Interior
- black exterior, paint shows some age and there are several small scratches here and there, but for almost 20 years old it looks pretty good. As you can see in the pics it shines up pretty good. This car has basically ZERO rust. The underside looks practically new. The body has no rust except for a few spots of surface rust under the hood and one small spot in the back where the plastic bumper came loose and is rubbing a bit. Car is definitely one of the cleanest original SHOs you will find.
- grey/black interior. I put some black seats from a 1990 SHO in the car as well as the center console. The center console should ideally be replaced as the armrest is broken. Should be a cheap junkyard part… I also have a set of full black leather seats from a 92 that can go with the car.
Drivetrain
- 3.2L swap. This was a 80k mile motor that was torn down and had all the bearings replaced as well as seals and gaskets. It has about 10k miles on it after the teardown.
- blower @ 9psi. I just rebuilt the headunit as well about 50 miles ago. It is a Powerdyne blower with all the necessary fuel and programming upgrades. 36lb/hr injectors and LPM
- stock clutch, low miles. I’ve tried a few different clutches over the years and I’ve had the best luck with the stocker. The fastest drag SHO runs a stocker and I’ve yet to have any problems… doesn’t slip and easy to drive!
Exhaust
- Rickety headers
- custom made 3" catback with single 3" car and custom Y-pipe, dual mufflers in the 92+ fashion.
Suspension
- Koni adjustable struts
- Eibach springs
- 26mm rear / 24mm front sway bars
I’m sure the car has more that I’m forgetting. It could use a couple things to make it the perfect sleeper, but it’s definitly a lot of fun as is. The car put down 306 wheel hp on 4psi, it is now running about 9psi which should be between 375 and 400 wheel hp. When I had this engine in my 92 with this blower it ran 110 in the 1/4, and the 89 is about 300-400lbs lighter.
I’ve attached a couple pics but I have many more… car is located in Rochester and is garaged so you can see it if you’d like. Please don’t waste both of our time if you have no intention of buying, but if you’re sincerely interested and the roads are decent we can go for a ride and I can show you the car.
I’m asking $4500, oh yea I have about 4 sets of rims that can go with it too… one with brand new summer tires and one with decent winters. You can also have any of the SHO parts in my basement if you want… I have a TON of stuff.
Any questions or if you want more pics just let me know.
Thanks!
Adam
