Tesla "Skateboard" - Make Your Car Electric

[quote=“Onyx Z32"”]

… I think there’s room with these platforms for a return to coach-building where you start with the Model-S battery & motor and build out your own car from there.

Who’s interested? Maybe I’ll convert my Z…

It works like this: Tesla will produce and sell the skateboard, which comprises the batteries, motors, suspension and wiring, and sell it as-is to customers.

From there, owners are able to do with it as they wish, by installing any car body type onto the platform. To speed up the process, Tesla will expand its service centres, giving them the tools necessary to perform these conversions in-house.

“Elon just loves getting his D out there.”

Pulled out this post, it deserves its own thread.

What car would you convert?

Fisker

lol

I’d convert an F350 Diesel, then modify it in some way that I could fill a small fuel tank, install stacks and roll-coal on demand with a flick of a switch. Best of both worlds.

Whoa, this could be awesome. I’m not seeing any estimates on what this will cost, though.

Damnit, is this an early april fools joke?

Ha! Or convert an LS1 car. lol

b5 s4.

all the looks. none of the problems.

A Mustang or a Vette. I would receive LZ level hate from thousands of people for either.

I’d buy a Prius and install one of these on it.

Ha, well said.

Lol.

There’s a company out west called EV West, conversions start at around $20k for parts (uses Tesla batteries). They have an electric e36m3 track car

wonder what Tesla pricing will be

I think these beauties make sense again
