The Camaro Z/28 Returns

Nice

Not good.

The high-performance Z28 is a different story, however, with GM’s own costs reportedly being the culprit. TDB quotes Gene Stefanyshyn, the car’s Vehicle Line Executive, as saying that as it sits, the model “would cost too much” – about $50 million. Thus, the Z28 could either come to market carrying a prohibitively expensive price tag or face some “creative engineering,” and it’s likely to do the latter – if it can be saved at all. For now, TDB is calling the Z28 “cancelled” with a potential resurrection still in the cards.

BS. The LS9 is a direct swap. They don’t have to retool anything to make the z28 a production option.

Camaro vs Challenger vs Mustang GT

Drop top has been confirmed according to MotorTrend:

“For its part, General Motors insists that the topless Camaro has always been scheduled for one year after the coupe began production, but now Motor Trend is now saying that the Camaro Convertible will probably not arrive until the first quarter of 2011 (likely as a 2012 model).”

According to Camaro5 user Hiney1 who attended a special question and answer session at the Carlisle Nationals this weekend, a Z28 will arrive after the Camaro Convertible, itself expected in the spring of 2011.

Still he said she said BS but at least talks are still alive.

Thats good to hear, i wonder if thats what the Camaro in the new transformers movie was based off, it looked way better in my opinion in rise of the fallen!

They mentioned that they would most likely use the same hood, but not certain on the front bumper.

The bumblebee style hood is a very popular item for aftermarket demand.

i don’t dig the styling of this. i was thinking that it would grow on me but it has only grown distaste. then again i have a wrangler and a stingray era vette so kettle meet pot lol

I must be the only one in here that things a supercharged Z28 is just stupid. I have owned 6 Z28’s. They aren’t supposed to cost more than a Corvette. They are pricing the Z28 way out of the market which was the original appeal of it. I would much rather see the Z28 with the Z06 motor in it, possibly detuned a bit, making 450hp, with better wheels, and special styling. Make it a $36,000 car base.

i agree. a camaro should never cost as much as a vette.

How much cheaper is an ls7 than an lsa? I guess they are just trying to compete with the gt500

LS7 $13.700

LSA $14,295

Not sure if this is the cheapest for either but a $500 dollar price difference is not going to change the sticker on a car that much.

Marketing. How many Corvette ZR1’s do you think they will sell if they offer the Z28 with the same motor for under $40,000??? Do you really think the ZR1 is worth $25,000 more than the Z06? After all, the crate motors are only $500 apart.

I’m still holding out for the 2011 IROC

ZR1 has an LS9 not an LSA which is in the CTS-V.

LS9 is 21k

Which is a $7k premium for the engine alone. Add up the brakes, suspension, window on the hood, carbon fiber bits, etc. I am sure you are closing in on the premium they are asking.

Also the CTS-V has an LSA and cost $60k, do you really think a Camaro costing $50k is going to do any more damage to the ZR1 than the caddy?

That is like saying the GT500 hurt the sales of the Ford GT because they had “similar” horsepower.

God, how did I know you were going to chime in with Cadillac stuff.

Sorry for my mistake. The Z28 will have a supercharged LS motor. I don’t care what letter comes after the “S”. Yes it will hurt ZR1 sales. If they were to price it based on the price difference in crate motors then technically they could offer it for less than 40 grand, which would crush ZR1 sales. Big no-no.

LOL, yes a LOT more. Corvette=performance car. Camaro Z28=performance car. Cadillac=grandpa car

Ford GT=exotic car, not really a similar comparison. There is no $40,000 version of the Ford GT with the top-model having the supercharged motor.

I am trying to think of a non-gm or Ford analogy here, but I am drawing a blank.
