The get-to-know-each-other thread

Tell everyone a bit about yourself. Where you work/go to school… or why you are an unemployed bum, and anything else you feel like sharing.

My name is Dave. I’m pretty much an unemployed bum. I write for the Grant MacEwan newspaper, but it usually works out that I get paid about $3/hour, sometimes lower. Working their while getting my Journalism diploma, which I am about a month and a half away from getting.

Time for the rest of you to share!

Nice work on the school!

At the moment I am unemployed, but within a month I should be back working construction so I can slap some more parts on the car.

I actually attended an arts school in Vancouver and got a 2 year degree in Video Game Design, which is really paying off at the moment, let me tell you. A couple friends and I are looking at starting a game studio in Edmonton, but we’ll have to see where it takes us. In any event, if it is going to work it will probably happen this fall. If it doesn’t, I might go back to school and get a real education, likely in business. (I figure if I can make it to the head of an auto manufacturer, I can get free cars. ;))

Other than that, I’m pretty boring really. What’s more interesting than a chubby white kid playing video games and liking cars? Hell man, you should do a story on my totally unprecidented situation with your shiny new Journalism degree.

The name is Scott.I am 20 and currently reside in Spruce Grove.Have a gf of 4 years and that is pretty much it. At the moment I am unemployed.Last semester I was enrolled in Civil Engineering Tech at Nait.Unfortunately I had some pretty serious health problems and had to withdraw.Since I finally have the problem somewhat under control I am in the process of getting into the Grant Mac/U of A business transfer program with a major in finance. After that I plan on going to law school.

Sweet career choice PyreXXX…I always wanted to be able to design my own video game…well until gt4 came out…that’s pretty much what my game would’ve been…except with realistic damage! haha

My name is Andrew, lived in Calgary my whole life, currently on an acreage just outside the city. After high school I took a year of engineering at Mount Royal, decided I didn’t like it, so I went into process piping drafting at SAIT, which has allowed me to obtain the position I currently occupy at Colt Engineering. I’ve been working for a year now, and almost all the money has gone to my project 240. Now that it’s where I want it to be pretty much, time to start saving for a condo down payment!

Oh and I like long walks on the beach and women who are shorter than 6ft, and not fat.

^^^^^ I think the women comment goes for everyone.
I am at Scona High School. Curently 17 (less than a week till i’m 18) and work at Partsource at South Edmonton common. I’m takin a year off before i go to University, hopefully Calgary or Toronto. I want to take either Aeronautical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Got a girlfriend of 2 years and can’t wait for Grad. Thats about it…

^^ MECH engineering is what I wanted to do, but they killed the program with all those chemistry and physics courses :frowning: I HATE chemistry.

Cool… Nice to know there is some Nissan friendly staff there. I might have to look for you and say hi next time I’m there.

PS I was in there a couple weeks ago, one quiet evening during the week, and just bought a pack of vacuum plugs - just in case you were the guy that helped me that night.

Hi I’m Jason and I’m 31… I guess I lucked out and got in under the wire before any age limits were imposed. :stuck_out_tongue: Guess I have to live with being one of the old farts around here.

I’m a Chemical Engineer working for an Engineering firm in the Oil & Gas industry (U of A grad).

I’ve been a Z owner since 1998. The 90+ 300ZX Twin Turbo was my true love since I was old enough to truly appreciate cars. I was mid-way through high-school when they first debuted and I somehow knew I had to own one someday.

Bought my second Nissan in 2001, a loaded '01 Sentra SE (w/ Perf Pkg) which replaced my previous daily driver.

In case some are wondering why I’ve been so slow to climb the “mod tree” relatively speaking, I guess I’ve had a few life-altering diversions along the way, such as: moving cities and changing jobs, buying a house, and most recently getting married. Would I change any of that to own that set of big mother turbos (and all the expensive goodies that usually go along with them)?? NO, but I hope to get there eventually anyway… at my own pace.

See you at a meeting soon, hopefully. :drinkers:

My name is Jason I am 20 and I am a student at SAIT and am finishing my first year of welding. I ride freestyle BMX and am sponsored by Mission and Smith. I have been dating my girlfriend Jenn for 3 1/2 years. I live in Calgary at home with my parents cause I am cheap.

I bought my Nissan last april and pretty much all my earnings have gone into it since I purchased it. I seem to be addicted to parts and whenever I get money I buy more upgrades. I hope to finish my apprenticeship in the next 2 years and buy a starter home after that.

Hope to meet lots of you this summer after the car is back on the drivable roads.

since were startin the A.A meetings…my name is Kent im also a drunk enjoying the partying life :partyman: quote]

HA HA HA, I think alot of us like to PARTY as you call it. Well I will join in on the AA meeting since I am a recovering bar star.

Well my name is Laurier (i think i post my name under most of my threads) umm and I am 19 and I am still upgrading at my old high school (ya, its really weird, so much jail bate- ahh its not like its to much different from tequila in calgary). But I am upgrading to go into either mechanical, chemical or petroleum engineering tech at sait. Ahh I am not employed at the time and I have been living off selling usless car parts for the past 3 months. And my dad thinks I am an underachiever. well that sums up my life that doesn’t involve my 240sx. Oh ya and I have 2 counts of telling off ex-girlfriends “because I spend so much of my time and money with you I have been set back on my 240sx for parts” now remember how I said EX. ha ha ha suckers.

My name is Jared. I am 30 and have been married to my wife Jennnifer for two years, My son was born dec1 st 2004. They are a big priority for me, and have given me pause to think why I why still own my 240SX the past two years. I own two businesses and am employed as a partsman. I enjoy new ideas, about business, cars, and technology in general. I enjoy helping other people miss some of the mistakes I went through learning about my S13.

My name is Jay, I recently left my home-based business to work for General Electric in the finance dept. I have a degree as a computer systems analyst. Still think I shoulda just taken the commerce instead!! Oh well!! I have a 5 yrs old daughter and have a g/f that I have been with since most of you were still in elementary!! LOL Like Inzane Iam closer to his age!! And also like that, I have had some life-altering things going on in my life as well. So I haven’t had the joy of totally going all out on my car. I’m a recent Nissan owner. I do not think I will own another domestic car again in my life. lol I have been saved from the GM family!! lol I hope to continue to learn a lot from all of you on this site and meeting you all in person. Its unreal the amount of talent that people have that are in this club!! I was just in awe after talking to quite a few of you with my newbie questions about 240’s!!

Thanks dude…it’ll be really sweet career if I can actually get into it. It’s actually quite a closed industry to outsiders, unfortunately.

Everyone bitches about GT and other racing games not having realistic damage, but the reason that happens is because the auto makers don’t want their cars represented with damage…they actually put specifically in the contract that the car shall suffer no external damage of any kind. After all, cars are fantasy objects that can never run out of fuel, are always clean, shiny and sexy no matter what weather may be happening, and are completely impervious to damage, don’t you know.

Anyway, back on topic - I forgot two things:
#1) My name is Kris. DUH. (The fact that I’m part Ukranian should explain this one… :D)
#2) I used to play drums in a local metal band in the edmonton area a few years back, and I was wondering if there were any other musicians in the NECC.

my name is jamie. i live in sherwood park. 21 moved out but moving back home for a few months.i work everyday just to pay for my car and partying. graduated back in 2002 and plan to take basic business next fall at grant. i am a poker freak and enjoy football and flyfishing.
