You learn something every day, thank you.
Zing, this is true. As much as I dislike GM I know many that work there. From what I hear the get away with murder union protection isn’t the norm anymore, at least for the newer hires.
And this happened today:
GM Just Recalled 3.16 Million More Cars, Bringing Total To 20 Million
The vehicles include the 2005-2009 Buick Lacrosse, 2000-2005 Cadillac Deville, 2004-2011 Cadillac DTS, 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne, 2006-2008 Chevy Monte Carlo, and the 2006 to 2014 Chevy Impala.
People are being asked to remove extra weight from their key chains and drive only with the ignition key. Eventually, they’ll be given new key inserts that’ll prevent this from happening.
This has nothing to do with the Unions… I’ve been to the Toyota plant in Japan… it is unionized, and their perks are significant. The difference is in the culture of the country and people of the country; plain and simple. Culture, Pride, Structure, a place for everything and everything in it’s place, etc. (I was thouroughly impressed during my time in Japan, and would go back in a heartbeat.)
Mercury has been gone for like 3-4years
The problem is not with the unions, they didn’t design the ignition switch, and maybe it wasn’t the engineers but the suppliers???
Engineers have been fired like a week ago?!?
You seemed to have learned nothing about this recall/GM/Ford/Life?
Nailed it. Nobody can compete with the Japanese work force. They are born and bred to honor their families and work hard. They are incredible laborers, and each and every one of them takes extreme pride in what they do.
I travel a lot for work and I get rental cars of all brands. Whether it’s a Corolla, Civic, Soul, Jetta, Sonata, Fiesta, Cruze, they’re all shitboxes to me. I’ve actually driven all of those in the past year. Cramped, boring, and when I merge onto a highway and floor it I want a big engine that actually moves, not some 4 cylinder that makes a lot of noise at me and doesn’t go any faster…I’ve only owned V8’s since I was 16. Damn near got myself killed trying to merge on I-95 in Boston in rush hour traffic in a new Sonata with 800 miles on it. No matter the brand, driving any econo car just makes me appreciate driving either of my cars that much more when I get home.
Pretty sure my shitty opinion is more well-informed than most. Judging car companies based only on their worst models because that’s all you can afford is like rating which type of chicks are the hottest based only on those that are over 60.
My god i’m buying you a beer! That Jam guy has on OPINION on everything domestic. Calling them all death traps, lol. Funny thing is i’ve owned roughly 25-30 domestics in my life, and have never been in an accident related to ANYTHING mechanical and whatnot. I got rear-ended once during a fresh snowstorm. That’s it. I’ve never been stranded, due to faulty engineering, or skimping out on materials. Sure I’ve had some heavily modified cars blow transmissions, and i’ve gotten a flat tire once, but nothing was the manufacturers fault. He makes it sound like EVERYTHING is better once you go to a foreign car:
Ruh, roh! When is the Mazda recall going to happen?
Here’s a CX-9
Whoops!
How about this:
When driving a vehicle use a little bit of common fucking sense and keep your feet down where they belong at the pedals, and you’ll live a long and happy life.
I don’t understand why Yamba and Jam just don’t start 69-ing or something, I think that would make everyone happier.
I don’t understand why a part designed with improper tolerances and driven to failure in part by owners who insist on carrying every damn key they own on the same ring as their ignition key turned into an import vs. domestic battle. :gotme:
Back on topic, I remember by grandmother’s '88 Monte Carlo and my dad’s '90s Monte Carlo (thank god I broke that cycle) allowed the key to turn back when the car was running. You could pull the keys out and they’d stay running. I always thought it was kinda cool as a kid, lol.
I think it’s so awesome that you guys are still defending gm. Good for you!
and I don’t hate domestic cars! I’m probably going to buy a ford soon. Sheesh you guys get so friggin butt hurt when someone has an opinion

My dad’s 80’s bronco II would do that! I thought it was pretty cool also
As far as push button start goes, the new 4Runner has it only on the high end model. WTF is that? lol. Just put it on everyone for God’s sakes!
Good read.
Yeah I have a new rav4, and it has the dumb key, no push button start.
It seems to be only going in luxury cars?
My friend has a new acura suv, and it has push button start.
Nissan Rogues have it.
G37s have it
Corvettes have it
Random airbag explosions? Nice work Honda. I can’t believe you guys are still defending them and buying their shitty death traps.
That’s actually a big deal since so many manufactures use that airbag supplier.
Speaking of airbags and in relation to this thread:
General Motors’ long stream of recalls and safety-related issues continues, and has now spread to its current small car lineup, after the company told its dealers to stop selling 2013 and 2014 Chevrolet Cruzes because of a potentially defective airbag yesterday.
The driver’s-side airbag is “suspect,” according to the order, and the inflator module within the airbag “may have been assembled with an incorrect part.”
Yes, they put the wrong goddamn part in the airbag.
In a somewhat incredible move, the company still doesn’t know exactly how many vehicles were affected, or which ones were specifically affected. They’re still trying to figure that out.
At least they go off!
also. We’ve been over this. The company that you’re defending covered up a known, deadly issue for a decade. A decade!!!
ive tried for a while now to turn my ignition off while driving with my knee. In a passat, civic, and element. I’ve been 100% unsuccessful :gotme:

Now a $10 billion lawsuit for lost resale value lol. Can resale value be actually lowered more on a gm product? Apparently so!!!
