jailbreak it and use the hide & seek ap, which allows you to hide pics in your camera roll
I loled at this
Little Review for those waiting until today:
Got my phone last night, activated it, and everything seemed good to go. No yellow spots, wifi connected just fine in my house, and even though I only made a couple calls, the reception issues seemed just fine. After playing around with it for a bit, I noticed my phone went back to the EDGE network and has stayed there since. It doesn’t even detect the wifi in my house anymore. I’m at work and it doesn’t even offer the option to detect wifi here either and we do have Wifi or so I thought.
Not a huge deal but I noticed my phone is dented on the top right hand corner of my phone between the glass and the metal band. It looks like something melted the plastic that sits between the two. I’m going to call apple regarding the wifi issue but know a replacement is probably a week or two away with all the current users wanting an iphone.
One concern I’m worried about is the data plan ATT has for this phone. How fast will I blow through 2GB of data by staying on the 3G network since my WIFI is messed up? If I leave it on all the time but don’t use the browser much, will I still rack up the mileage of the data? I’m a complete newb when it comes to that.
That was the bad, now the good.
This phone is pretty sweet. The display is gorgeous, the response time is amazing and the text is crisp and clear. The camera takes detailed photos and is by far the best phone camera I’ve used. Although don’t take my word for it as I have yet to use a droid camera. It’s a simple easy to use phone, little to no bugs so far with the software that I have noticed, besides the WIFI issue.
It holds great in the hand. Has some weight to it which I like, instead of the plasticy(sp) feeling some phones have and all in all its a really sexy phone.
That’s all I have for now…When I start making calls today I’ll update with the reception issue.
Sucks that yours arrived melted. Hopefully that is whats causing your wifi issues.
If you’re someone who frequently drops phones or needs a replacement every other week, apparently this phone may not be for you.
all of my friends from home that have iphones have broken there screens multiple times. At least the 3g models allow you to replace with ebay parts though.
I’m sure that ebay will be flooded with iPhone 4 parts in not time.
But god damn. I thought they said this glass was even tougher than the current. Hmmm.
The people that took it apart stated that there was something like 3 different parts that would need to be replaced all at the same time.
edit: here is the information on replacing the screen iPhone 4 teardown: 512MB RAM confirmed (updated)
The LCD panel is not, however, as it’s tighly glued to the glass and digitizer. So if you do manage to break the Gorilla Glass, you’ll have to replace it, the digitizer, and the LCD as a single unit.
Before you could just take it apart and put new glass in. That super high ppi LCD screen probably won’t be super cheap either.
Just an FYI for inquiring minds.
Not sure if it is or not, the melted part is very tiny and is not touching the glass or metal.
I think that applies for pretty much ANY smartphone.
I drop my Droid all the time…Otterbox was a good investment lol
Well…True, I am still baffled at people getting new phones like weekly due to drops, water damage, etc. If you are a clumsy person…an expensive phone probably isn’t a great idea. But in this case with the glass on the iPhone the previous statement is especially true.
@Boardjnky4
I’d love to get the otterbox for mine, but when I get home I throw mine onto the dock, also use the GPS car mount from time to time.
It’s an interesting trade off they went with by going all glass front/back. The glass is much less likely to scratch living in your pocket but it’s more likely to break impacting hard surfaces like cement.
It probably won’t take long for the chinese knockoffs of the display + digitizer to come out for cheap ebay replacements. I did an LCD+digitizer replacement on a coworkers 3g and it took me about 30 minutes. Doing it again I could probably cut that to about 10 now that I know exactly what I’m doing.
I know it would save a bunch of money going with the knockoff lcd, but wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of getting the iphone4 with the retina display?
My buddy had this thin case that made his 3Gs virtually bullet proof, I figure I’ll get one of those as soon as it is avaialble.
What are you guys going to rock for scratch protection for now?
Doubt I’ll even have time to open this thing until the weekend, anyone had any issues activating online today?
Also not sure why people don’t understand that making something scratch resistant and impact resistant are two different activities. Gorilla glass is designed for scratch protection and… well, is glass, and as such is going to be brittle. Why is breaking a screen all that surprising?
most really thin cases don’t provide much shock absorption
I mean it won’t be long and China will be making knockoffs of the retina display.
Sitting here working from home and thought my phone was here when I heard the clatter of a diesel truck stopping out front. Nope, it’s the fucking UPS guy. Come on!
He had this: http://www.speckproducts.com/products/candyshell/iphone-3g-iphone-3gs/162
He would routinely slam the phone around as a demo as to why everyone needed one. Its not thin like a film, but its not bulky like most I see either.
First impressions, I’m very impressed.
Unfortunately most of the big apps I wanted to see run much faster were hacked copies on my 3g so they won’t run on my 4 until the new jailbreak comes out or I buy legit copies.
The camera is pretty impressive.
Macro is pretty nuts, and the tap to focus works great. This was taken at less than 2" distance.
Wow. That’s awesome for a phone. Flash on for the second one?
