I think a lot of the hype comes from the early upgrade thing, and I think that was a HUGE move by both AT&T and apple for a few reasons:
- More people were eligible for upgrade, so more people wanted to pre-order. They figure, wow they theyre doing me a favor, now I don’t have to wait.
- They just beat ANY android/symbian competition for at least 6 months, HTC will be pissed b/c their new android phone on AT&T will NEVER gain any traction with this thing out there.
- The increased hype from the increased orders from the early upgrade was so big that it made headlines on CNN and other media outlets.
Well, technically, most phones don’t do anything new.
The increased power and capabilities will give developers new capabilities.
As I see it, it’s like every EvoX owner selling their current car and scrambling to buy a new EvoX because it has a new front bumper and a cooler gauge cluster.
That would be pretty accurate.
Most of the people upgrading don’t have a 3gs though, they either are converting, or upgrading a much older 2g or 3g iPhone. I don’t think it ever deserves the hype, even when it first came out… its just a phone. Don’t you always want something that you’ve purchased and have to wait for?
I don’t think anyone (here anyway) is saying it is going to change their lives.
walter, I think you are underestimating how big of a deal this is to some people
Well, for me it’s more like upgrading from a Civic to an EvoX.
Yeah, they both have wheels and do about the same thing, but it’s a major performance upgrade. At the end of the day it just looks nicer and goes a little faster right? And like Geoff said, the iPhone is something I use every day. It’s what I grab first thing in the morning to check my email, calendar, local and national news and weather while I sit in the throne room.

This. I’m coming from a 3g phone that is slowly dying to the 4 and it’s going to be a nice upgrade. I use my phone everyday so it’s quite substantial.

Uh Oh, already problems(bugs) with the phone. Yellow spots are showing up on the screens and the reception shits on you if you hold the metal band wierd.

I love the new screen, but it seems alot of non apple app icons are not up to par with the resolution. it’s alot faster and battery life is much better.
