THE **iPhone** Thread (GPS, JailBreak, Apps, Etc)

I don’t think you will see another iPhone this year. The comment during WWDC about how they really revamped the whole experience, it is a whole new iPhone, made me think we won’t see a phone.

I really hope and doubt that will not be the case.

Engineering teams focused hard on the new iOS. I don’t think there will be one this year. My guess is early 2014.

bump

Should be new models around 1pm EST

Yawn, still 4", and yay, the OS is flat now.

So you took Scarlett Johansson, gave her tiny tits, then tried to sell me on the fact that flatter is better? Fuck you Apple.

People keep suggesting a finger print reader which a fucking horrible idea on a phone.

Not to mention if Apple rolls it out it will have some fatal bypass or flaw then cause people to be locked out in 6 months.

Also if they release a poverty iPhone 5C it kinda fucks their whole “image” of making higher quality stuff

They’re definitely releasing a poverty phone. Can’t keep letting Android brag about how they have so much better worldwide market share because every soccer champion country runs on free android phones.

For the first time ever, Apple is now looked at to keep up with the competition. I wouldn’t consider just a cheaper iPhone as a new release as it isn’t really innovative. They are doing it as a business move to increase sales and presence and moving away from the niche market Apple used to be. I am waiting for them to announce cheaper Mac Books as well to compete with PCs if they want to play the shareholder game.

I am preparing for disappointment unless they managed to completely go back to a secure R&D environment where they have new products no one has ever seen mockups for. Either way, there is no really new private libraries in iOS 7 to indicate a bigger screen, new features, or any thing beyond a typical mid release where the iPhone is just faster and more memory.

My only hope is Apple went way back to Foxconn and its makers and told them with the production competition in Asia now, any leak will result in them pulling the production contracts. Also hope that the are waiting until after the event to release the iOS7 GM release which will include APIs to the general core of developers that maybe only a few partners had access to as they have done in the past where they showed off a couple companies games on the new platform.

I also hope that they have something better than the leaks up their sleeves.

Frankly, I doubt it.

My opinion, Tim Cook is leading Apple’s mobile developments down a dangerous road. I see Siri (yes, Jobs was around for Siri, but he was sick) and Maps to both be flops, and I envision that anything else they do (in terms of innovative features) will continue to be the same mediocrity.

And when I say “flops”, I mean, they don’t get the amazing review that Apple is used to receiving. Most people that I talk to still consider Siri to be a novelty that is rarely used outside of getting a chuckle at the bar. Google Maps is still the defacto go-to in the maps area. Maybe Apple Maps is decent or even good, but it’s not wow-ing anyone.

Actually, and I’m sure most people can see to this, the iPhone is ALREADY a poverty phone. Look at how many people out there choose to buy an iPhone only to neglect buying other important things in life. I know people who say they can’t afford to buy new shoes, a vehicle or even “hang out” yet they’ll tell you this over facetime, lol.

A cheaper iPhone is not about reaching poor people in the US (as I said above, they already do) but about markets in India, etc. where Apple has little market share. Seems like most of you guys understand this already though.

I agree, the iphone is already wildly popular in the US.

A lot of people are ignore upgrading their iphones and buying lower models to save money, though. I know A LOT of people still rocking the iPhone 4. They don’t care about not having Siri, and it’s cheap. Hell one of my buddies just renewed his contract and got him and his wife free iPhone 4’s.

I think if the don’t have a big release this year, then Tim Cook will be gone. Who they replace him with, I have no idea. I don’t see Jony Ive being a CEO.

The issue is Apple builds hype around these events and people expect them to top previous releases which is impossible.

I’m still stoked about that new cylinder desktop thing im going to grab one when its released.

Like I said, Apple isn’t concerned with providing a poverty phone for the US. Watch the news when they’re doing a welfare, foodstamps or HEAP story and take note of how many iOS devices (or telltale Apple earbuds) you see. They aren’t having an issue selling iPhones to poor people here.

probably going to have to wait until October for that, I think it’s been determined that new MBPs, OSX Mavericks and probably the mac pro will be announced at a different event next month.

Curious what that would look like with a cheap iOS phone.

There are a lot of free/cheap Android ones

I’m guessing it wouldn’t be nearly as tipped in Android’s favor, which is why we’re going to see an iPoverty phone released in a few minutes.
