THE **iPhone** Thread (GPS, JailBreak, Apps, Etc)

I love it… you clearly aren’t using it to its fullest… k thx

simcity is out :tspry:

Does this mean my 1st gen Iphone is worth less now since the new 3g is faster and can now be unlocked… maybe i should sell it very soon then!

yes and no. I don’t think anyone on a 3g phone can even get 3g service through tmobile so probably not so much in the USA. Overseas, yeah, probably.

I still think the first gen design was a lot nicer. The display contrast is better too (or better white levels)

difficult to love crashing, weak sdk support, lack of copy/paste, sluggish ui response…and the best, lost outbund emails when you have a blocked outbound wifi connection…like an AP that requires login/acceptance via safari but you dont know that because you’re tooling around in email, hit send. Looks like it went, but never does. And there is no real outbox, so when you do connect to the proxy, the mail has vanished. It’s documented on the iphone forums, so i know I’m not the only one.
And biggest pet peeve, cannot use the iphone with a gloved hand??

my biggest problem is that im retarded when it comes to any apple products. iv taught myself how to do everything to it, jailbroke it, customized, added emulators, a few games, and mewseek to download music.

im sure most of you guys are laughing saying, it was easy, but for me, i feel like i finally just finished a marathon.

my problem now is that a few of the programs i installed dont work. they start up, my background flashes on the screen and then it returns to the homepage.

anybody else have these problems? i also have lots of dead pixels on my screen, not a huge problem because i will be upgrading to the iphone at christmas, but is this a common problem?

no dead pixels on either of mine. as for the apps crashing have u tried rebooting the phone? that will usually take care of it. what programs are doing it? cracked, retail or homebrew?

brothers in arms, i downloaded that from cydia, i think. a program called customize, and another called boot neuter.

i want to say they are cracked, but could be wrong.

Mine never crashes…

OMG no copy and paste.

I do agree with the sluggish UI response… its kind of a pain, but its manageable

Blocked outbound email is not something the phone is at fault for… its the ISP of the wifi provider. use 3g to send email. I never have a problem

Again having to log into something isn’t the fault of the iphone. Its your fault for not authenticating.

Are you using this on UB’s Wireless_network? or Buffalo States? I know UB blocks other smtp servers…

How can you really bitch about not using the iphone with a gloved hand… That is the most garbage complaint ever… the iphone works the way it does, so find a solution to make it work for what you need They do make gloves that allow you to type with it.

lol thats apples next proposal, gloves suitable for the iphone.

x3 on the sluggish UI… it gets annoying sometimes, but like ILC said, it’s not a deal breaker. Just wish more devs would take it into consideration or at least wish apple would give the option to clock the CPU higher than what it is to compensate for it

ah, from appulous?

there are 2 patches that you need to apply I believe to even run it, so that may be your problem. As for customize and boot neuter, I have no idea… don’t run either of them.

the glove thing is just something you have to deal with. If they had made it pressure based, opposed to capacitive, it would of ended up being a totally different phone IMO. Theres no way it could of been as useable as it is with that kind of setup

you can buy a stylus for it though if you’re a glove wearer

Don’t get me wrong, I really like the device, and it suits my needs for now. But it is hard to love. Every business user I talk to says the same exact thing. I hope the next gen works out the usability kinks. I used to have a windows mobile phone and if I am being honest, had to reset 1x per month. My iphone needs a hard reset at least once per week. Don’t get me started on battery…

yes i think it is from appulous actually. iv been trying to find a program that can stream videos and shows when im at work. i wish i could stream the sabres game on it, but thats probably not going to happen.

sometimes installous doesn’t always work correctly, but the newest version has been rock sold thus far. try re-installing it… that may work

if you have a PC, check out ORB.com.

install it on your computer, add the media you wish to stream (mp3’s, avi’s, mpg’s, streaming URLs, etc)

log onto mycast.orb.com from safari and enjoy  alternatively, there is now an ORB app in the appstore that you can use instead of safari, but you have to pay for it.

also, if you have a TV tuner card on your PC, you can stream live TV to it as well  if you don’t have one, I just happen to be selling one (HD capable)

wut?

My company bought them for us and we love them. If you are jailbreaking it then you have no reason to complain becuase apps that use the mobilesubstrate will lag the phone. Running 2.2 I have had the thing run over a week without reset.

Also, its a SMART PHONE. A computer in your hand with a GPU, CPU, WiFi, Bluetooth, Accelerometer, GPS, and 3 different cell chips. It uses power on top of the touch screen and backlight. You play games, browse the 3g internet, or use push email you can kiss going days without charging goodbye.

That’s the big thing I have to remind myself. This is my first smart phone so it took a while for me to get in the habit of powering off my phone every few days. My old cell would go months at a time without a reboot, but it was just a phone.

If you remember to reboot it every few days it definitely runs better.

STFU!

I LOVE YOU!!

*ILC is away: SIMCITY WHAT! MEGALOPOLIS!!!
