the 2nd generation touches cannot be jailbroken AFAIK, only the originals

Correct. The second gen fixed the hardware exploit that current jailbreak uses. I don’t think you will see a jailbreak for the 2nd gen until the software unlocker is released in January for the iPhone 3g.
Has anyone got the new Installous to sync apps with iTunes? Anytime I sync my music my cracked apps go bye bye

I just turned off the sync in installous and just don’t sync them anymore and they don’t delete.

i tried swirlymms and that didnt work
just got my 8gb itouch and all of a sudded none of the apps work. they open for a second then goes back to the main screen. ive tried to restart it and sync it but nothing. any ideas? its completely stock besides free apps from itunes and music from my computer.
should i restore it? will i lose all my apps?
My facebook/myspace apps and occasionally safari do that, or they freeze and go to home screen
the apps are crashing that means…it is recommended that you restart the device after installing new apps to prevent that
My girlfriend just got a 2nd Gen iPod Touch for xmas and what a headache the damn thing has been. She tried to sync it with her itunes at her house. It put the music on it but when you go to the music part on the phone it shows “No Music”.
I thought it might have to do with her iTunes having more than once device associated with it so I tried both my laptops and still nothing.
The software is finally unlocked so you can use the 3G iPhone on other networks!!!
Issues reported picking up other carriers networks and also require you turn off 3G to get on so you are really wasting your time and effort when you can pick up an unlocked 2G phone for cheap unless you want to future proof yourself and enjoy GPS.
Oh it also works only on the 2.2 firmware WITH baseband update so if you were waiting to update to potentially unlock your phone someday, go right ahead.
did the unlock. OUT going calls do NOT work. if you try to make a call you will lose reception which causes everything else to fail that needs a network connection. I cannot revert back to my sim unlock because of the baseband update. I would WAIT until they figure this out.
Meanwhile, I am stuck with a phone that can’t make outgoing calls.
when you sync it with itunes click on the ipod and go to the music tab and make sure the right box is selected. i did that once to mine as well. might also have something to do with the ‘only sync checked music’ or something like that

Ya. Tried restoring, adding manually, and syncing different music. We brought it to apple and they are swapping it out. They tried to restore it and it wouldn’t even restore.
The latest unlock version fixed the outgoing calls issue phone works great now

Ok, dumb question. I’ve got installous working, and I can SSH into my phone. Where do I put .ipa’s I download from torrents, and how do they get installed? I was following some tutorial this weekend that had be changing permissions on various folders to 777, but when I got to the end it said “put the ipa’s in your applications folder”. Well there are multiple applications folders.
/Private/var/mobile/library/downloads is usually where the ipas are. Once you add them there, you should see them in installous.
This phone is a great WiFi pentration tool. I got the shell fired up and can hop on open WiFi with nmap and find devices and open ports. also like getting into home networks with open routers. 
it’ll be great if it can crack wep codes too
