Weatherbug (real time > *, especially since I know you’re a boater too)
Go to www.iweathr.com and plug in the info to get local Buffalo animated radar. Then add a link to it to your home screen so it looks just like an app. Another boating lifesaver (literally if a bad storm is coming)
Shazam
SportsTap
Flashlight
Speed (nice GPS speedometer)
Urbanspoon
Pandora
Darkslide (if you use Flickr)
iHandy Level
Google (for speech based web search when driving)
WinAdmin (nice windows remote desktop app)
Then if you jailbreak:
Cycorder (video cam)
xGPS (turn by turn GPS with voice)
iNavX (chartplotter. You can get this without jailbreaking, but it’s $50 in the app store.)
Games, I have a bunch but find stuff that’s your taste. I will recommend ParkingLot and Wolf3d.
Thanks, I ain’t cracking it, so I’ll be paying $50 for iNavX. GPS with voice is coming in June according to Luke Skywalker (dude who sold it to me looks just like him).
^ Jailbreaking it really isn’t a big deal. You run a program and hold a couple buttons on the phone when it tells you to. Next time you upgrade your firmware with apple it’s unjailbroken again. If you need to take it back for a warranty issue you just run a restore from itunes.
EDIT: Can’t tell you how good iNavX is since I didn’t install it until after the season was done last year. It looks good, but it’s hard to test the waypoint navigation when you can only put waypoints on the NOAA charts and you can’t get to any of those points in a car.
EDIT2:
You can see I created a couple waypoints to get from the green can in the river to Buffalo Harbor avoiding the two reefs. Currently the blue line is pointing at waypoint 2 from my office in Amherst because the GPS knows where I am and that was the last waypoint I had selected.
They released 9 versions of 2.0 software to developers. They release every 2 weeks.
Beta 1 sucked. It was awful and downgraded to get rid of it cuz I couldnt use my phone properly. Beta 2 was great. It had everything working and had some bugs but very usable.
I have heard beta 3 fixed some bugs now and things like bluetooth audio streaming and stuff work.
There is supposedly a new one coming out with more storage, better camera, video, and a new screen.
I am personally in no rush to upgrade as the 16GB 3G is perfectly fine for everything I do and need but if you are going to buy one, I would wait the 2 months and get the Pro. You will lose the ability to jailbreak tho and need to wait for them to find an exploit in that system and there is no confirmed statement that one is coming out.
Software do a search on here for hackulo and our missing buddy Dr.Stevil posted how to add that to your installous packages.
EDIT: Searching for hackulo didn’t find what I was thinking of so I pulled the instructions from my gmail…
go to Cydia>manage>sources:edit> add
“http://cydia.hackulo.us”
then install a package called “Installous” and another called “miPatch Firmware 2.2” (cracked mobile installation file, so you can install unsigned apps)
reboot, goto “installous” and have fun
note, that if you have problems d/ling IPA’s over 3G, stream music online in safari so your phone keeps the same IP address
