THE **iPhone** Thread (GPS, JailBreak, Apps, Etc)

I have the second gen iPhone from about 2 years ago. (the one that came out after the original, but before the 3G). I was reading about doing the jailbreak, but was unsure as to what it can offer other than being an internet source for your laptop. Can someone fill in some blanks?

Access to the file system, themes, some add on apps like SBSettings or iRealQuickSMS, etc. The list goes on and tons of stuff you can do. Throw it through the jailbreak and you just get the Cydia icon. Its up to you what you want to do with it after that. No harm in just jailbreaking it and leaving it.

Just tried this and wow, their interface is way nicer than any stand alone GPS I’ve used.

What GPS app is this?

I am install Installous now.

As far as I know none of the installers in installous work. You need to get it from that torrent link posted earlier. Even if they did work I don’t think you want to download 1.7GB using the phone.

does anyone have problems with the GPS, i take the 190 alot and it always says im on like seneca or niagera. only once in a while it puts me back on it. any way to get a better signal?

Make sure you have a clear view of the sky. The more open it is, the better the position is.

yea i ordered a window mount for it the other day hopefully it will be here soon

the first version i got through installous but it was a text file with links to zip files to download like the torrent i posted

Today should be interesting after the talk at Black Hat about the iPhone SMS remote exploit

Let me help you with some details on that Captain Vague.

And holy shit, way to go Apple for ignoring this.

Well these articles make it look like end of the world shit…They found this by fuzzing the phone from the phone not passing the traffic over the network.

I am sure it wouldn’t be hard to filter the text messages on AT&Ts network…

They also said that there is a similar hack that works on a lot of GSM phones. The app they used to show it off had the ability to send it to a range of Android, WinMo, and BB phones too.

Comes out August 5th. Looks pretty cool for a iPhone competitor but I cant believe no other carrier has picked up these phones yet. Decent feature lineup too and this one looks a lot better than the G1 in my opinion. Def no iPhone “killer” tho.

Just an FYI, apparently theres a hack going around in the form of a text message. It will come as a little box in the text. DO NOT CLICK it. Shredd and Regan were talking about this yesterday. I guess it shuts off your phone or sends you a lot of wierd texts. …

Don’t know if this is 100% true but just a heads up…

I accidently my iPhone

Oh dear god…

Idiot DJs on the radio are getting two hacks confused.

A) There is a SMS hack going around that if someone formulates a correct text message to your phone they can have access and make your phone do anything they want. Open a browser, turn on your mic, send a text, etc. This comes in as a text with a black box on it. If you see it, turn off your phone ASAP.

B) There is also a MMS hack (not really to worry on iPhones yet since MMS isnt public) but they can generate you a text message that looks like its from ATT or anything and send you to a link.

They also forgot to add there are were 2 people on the planet who figured them out…Then they gave a talk on basic concepts on Thursday.

There is no virus running wild…
