THE NOVA

SB vs BB idk… I’ll let him tell you about his stuff if he wants .

I hear ya, I now have a -8 from when I put a new ele pump on mine. Should never have to buy fuel line again w a NA / nitrous motor.

Yes it’s a mechanical pump with stock 3/8
Line. I tried to get by with what I had but its probably only at to support around 550-600 hp the way it sits. There’s a good chance it’s coming off today and going with an elec pump and half inch line

60 foots were high 1.6 - High 1.7 it spun 1st gear felt great the rest did not

A lot of guys run high volume mech pumps and make that kinda power but i wouldnt. Not sure what your doing for pump but I’m running a $100 Holley black w 1/2 to -8 fittings. Flows plenty for the motor. The nitrous is on a stand alone system, everything is separate. Where are * getting ur fuel for the big shots? Obv if your using one pump for both fuel sources, shell out the cash and get a monster.

I’m pretty impressed w those 60s and ur first time at the track. Looks promising. You should post up some more pics of it

I have a sep. fuel system for the bottle with a holley elec pump I usually run race gas in it. The Holley mechanical is a 100
Dollar pump nuthin special. I saw other guys getting away with
It but they had smaller motors. I’ll do some research
Tonight it’s cutting it close but I’ll see if I can get a new system on it by next week and make some
More passes then ill work on jetting the carb.

You cheap chooch! I ditched the 1/2 fuel line and the 140 GPH holley and went with an A1000 and 5/8 fuel line and I have a SBC. Thats what you need!

450 gph mechanical race pump with -10an line should solve your issues

It’s Thursday!!! Ups track your goods!

nice nova…just finishing up my 68 ls3 4l80e pro fogger carbed set up.

Fast mo who?

Sounds sweet

ok, excuse my ignorance but if there is not enough fuel flow wouldnt you know by the engine cutting out and/or just quitting? if its an issue of starving and bogging at the line from not enough fuel to get it moving under higher load, wouldnt that be a carb adjustment instead?

i would think that if the flow wasnt enough it would just suck the floats dry and shut the engine off under full throttle.

It all depends on what type of fuel cutting out. Vapor lock can cause the fuel pressure to drop. I saw my fuel gauge drop 3 psi on a dyno pull. There are many variables involved. But 3/8ths is too small of a fuel line for a high horsepower carbed engine. My dads car would cut out cause the fuel pressure drop with 3/8th line. When we switched to 1/2 it was fine.

what it does right now is hits hard from the line, or any gear if your cruising and pick just that gear for a quick blast. its not bogging or anything. but shifting through them 1st,2nd,3rd you can see on the guage and feel in the car its just not right. at first the power is ok but peeters out. first is nasty from the line, then it falls off power in second but then picks back up a little but not enough. you can feel it its very obvious when in the car. i suspected something all along but was hard to pin point until we took it to the track and i let my friend drive it too and he felt the same. im assuming the bowls are recovering and filling again with less g behind them maybe. but the guage is showing low psi. its right around 7 at idle and cruise. it goes down to about 2 psi pretty quick when im on the gas. I really wasn’t noticing it because im in la la land half the time when im hitting it. watching the tach and just driving in general. 2 weeks ago at night at the track i couldnt read the guage. I didn’t hook up the light in it so I just ran it with out knowing, like a jackass. Theres a big ass motor under this car and without enough fuel its shitting out about 1000-1500 rpm below where it should be and yes it has stalled on me completely already. I put the old fuel pump back on last Tuesday, a holley 110. it kept better pressure with the small line so I went to the track again just to test a theory of mine. I was wrong in my theory. Psi went down to about 3 or 4 but the motor probably wants all the fuel I can give it. From the reading ive done and people ive talked to who have setups like mine, I can still have psi but not enough volume. some people don’t agree and I honestly have no fucking clue but what I do know is its sipping through a straw to feed a very large engine and is about to be guzzling from a garden hose. I got almost everything for the new system today and the pump will be here tomorrow. The system on it now is more suited for something around 400-500hp from what ive been told. its just not working for me at all. this was just stupidity on my part trying to get away with what I had. I should have done this when the motor first went in. I still plan to run it at NYI before the yr is up. I’m hoping to get it on a dyno but even if I don’t im still going to run it at the track. I really hope it wakes this thing up because its kind of snoozing. im just glad I didn’t street race anybody and get my ass kicked. was so hard to tell what was going on with it on the street, very clear at the track when you make pass after pass after pass. good shit. btw new fuel line is 5/8. running high volume pump with regulator now. if this doesn’t do it I give up.

edit: holy shit this is long

don’t be haters im sticking with a mechanical fuel pump. the new pump is rated up to 1300hp on gas. so i’ll be fine there lol

heres some of the shit that showed up today.

 can’t wait to put it in.

 5/8ths fuel line. It should wake the car up significantly.

This is what I run. No shortage of fuel for me. lol I’m sure I could add a blower and nitrous and still be ok. lol

With it dropping fuel psi like that, I can understand why you’re having problems lol. In my s10 before I put the fuel pressure gage in the cowl I was out cruising once, decided to do a nice wide open pull on a back road…next thing I knew the truck stopped pulling as hard and shut off. Let the fuel pump catch up(electric pump with reg) and it fired back up lol.

I like big rear ends  ha

i should have noticed sooner. ive had the guage on about a month. i see it at start up and it looks good. when i go wot on the street i don’t pay attention to it. im glued to the tach or the road. i didn’t watch it at the track. well, i couldn’t see it anyways. i only noticed it when i went to jnjs to dyno to see what was up with this thing. i finally watched it closely under WOT on the way there. 3rd gear at 30mph dropping the hammer it goes from 7 to as low as 2 psi within 2 seconds. tried it in 2nd gear and same thing. you can feel the power for a second so i know its in there. im surprised the thing ran as long as it does when im flooring it. ive only gone 99mph in it so far  so i bet it would have shut down if i had made a 1/4 pass. needless to say we decided to cancel the dyno until the new system is on. so hopefully dyno and nyi in the next week or two. but the system should be on this weekend and will give me an idea of where im at. im hoping to feel a big difference and pickup a lot of mph but we’ll see i guess

It’s def all about flow. I have to say I’d still ditch the mechanical pump for an ele one but hope it works out for ya.

If I had the time I would offer to come out and help ya along w doing some fine tuning with mine. And I’m glad I didn’t jump to get mine out to race * at 50%.

You have one month left man. Did joe ever finish his after it left turbo civs?

You’d have kicked my ass bud. I’m glad i didn’t either cause id have sprayed a motor that wasn’t ready and probably fucked it up. I gotta put my time in tuning the car like everybody else does and setting it up. I’m past street racing at this point now and just want to get it to go down the track as good as it can. Not saying id never play on the street again but not looking to go all out anymore. This new pump is my last attempt at a mechanical pump. I will go electric if it sucks but I’m pretty confident it will deliver the goods. Don’t tease with help if not srs. We have the same carb builder  JoeNova is too busy chasing pussy to finish his car. All he has to do is run oil lines. All the piping is done. He’s so close to firing it up like 1 day away. He needs to quit fucking around so we can see what that thing can do
