BTW, to those interested…heres a snapshot at Feinsteins outline…
Stopping the spread of deadly assault weapons
In January, Senator Feinstein will introduce a bill to stop the sale, transfer, importation and manufacturing of military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition feeding devices.
Summary of 2013 legislation
Following is a summary of the 2013 legislation:
Bans the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of:
120 specifically-named firearms;
Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one or more military characteristics; and
Semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds.
Strengthens the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and various state bans by:
Moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test;
Eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test; and
Banning firearms with “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons” to address attempts to “work around” prior bans.
Bans large-capacity ammunition feeding devices capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.
Protects legitimate hunters and the rights of existing gun owners by:
Grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment;
Exempting over 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes; and
Exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons.
*********** Requires that grandfathered weapons be registered under the National Firearms Act, to include:
Background check of owner and any transferee;
Type and serial number of the firearm;
Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;
Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and
Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration.************
Yea, she wants to turn current ARs into NFA items (like short barreled rifles, suppressors, and transferrable fully-auto guns), almost all of which are illegal in NYS (with the exception of “Any Other Weapon (AOW)”.
Here’s the good part:
Some stuff on that is so far out in left field, it’ll likely be a bogus campaign.
I’d be more worried about what Cuomo has planned for us than anything the Fed gov’t does. We’re already under an AWB very similar to the 94 ban. I hope, at the very worse, the rest of the country has the same laws as us.
Lol, I said “I’d be more worried”, not “I am worried”. I’m hoping that once the near year rolls around and bigger priorities come up, any gun legislation will be put on the backburner.
The feds have to worry about that fiscal cliff thingy majigg.
Also they decided not to hold a special session to legislate new gun laws and the stuff is slowly fading out of the media. (with exception of the dumb cunt in saratoga trying to stop the gun show) Honestly I think everything that we have seen has been a knee jerk reaction and in another week there will be some other event to take the front page and hopefully nothing will happen.
Nothing worse will happen (in NY at least) and we will have a lot of guns for sale locally for cheap as the market will be saturated. Similar to the generator sales past the hurricane scare.
Worst realistic scenario, some ban/limitation/new procedure is introduced where it’s harder to own but it’s extremely unlikely for grandfathered weapons to be attacked or went after. Which ironically makes the law useless.
It all comes down to $$$. It’s perfectly legal to resell a long gun a million times with no registration, so they are basically impossible to track. Unless there was going to be a lot of money put into some effort to find and track what I would guess is over 10 million weapons it’s a law that is basically impossible to enforce. Also the lower reciever is the firearms so you could strip every part off of any lower registered to you and just turn in the lower and they can’t do shit. Then all you need is a different lower and to reassemble the rifle.
Also since guns are easily customized, with many parts being able to be changed it’s hard to form an umbrella law that actually stops anything. Which is why “Assault weapon” coinage came about and is worded so vague.
They had to pass something but it’s impossible for law makers to put into words the fact that
This
and this
Are essentially the same gun making the same damage (.22) but one is much more “menacing” than the other. (I have no idea what the second monstrosity is but I googled 1022 remington for it :lol )
AR looks scary (being born for modern combat and all), hunting rifles typically don’t, with the wood furniture and lack of a magazine. In this country the masses are easily swayed either way on issues and they both end up going nowhere or having a productive result. Current fiscal cliff is a perfect example of that.
NYfirearms had a good article recently where it essentially said that America is full of assholes, and there is nothing that can be done about it. People don’t consider other people, the fact that they are human beings or how they might effect them. Some of these shootings are an extreme case of that.
I made a temp cover from 1/4" plate for you for the time being. I still have to tool up the actual flange I want to make you on the CNC, but ran into some more fucking issues with test runs of these handguards and just haven’t had the time to get to that yet. At least for now this one will suffice and then it can just be swapped out as soon as I get the nice one cut for you.
They are throwing their agenda at the wall liberally and trying to see what sticks. If they hold dead set on making changes, then the people will be happy to compromise.
Also, FB is banning “pro gun accounts / groups.” wtf…
