The Rapid Move To All Electric (But Real Goal = No Personal Cars)

I can’t spend 100k or 70k.

I’m more of a 20k used car kind of a guy.

C’mon… whoe doesnt want the geo metro of high tech.

Getting closer to that sweet spot…

It probably runs on 300V instead of 400V as a throwback to the 3cyl hamster wheel those came with.

Nerd Wallet recommends spending no more than 10% of your take home after tax income on a car payment.

The average person in the US takes home $2700 a month after taxes.

Unless you’re putting down 5-10 grand, you ain’t getting no 270$ car payment.

Meanwhile…Car Payments of $1000 a Month (or More) Are Distressingly Common

I’ll just continue to wait until their pricing becomes more realistic. In the meantime, I’ll settle for 40MPG in my no frills Yaris.

It’s crazy how many of my friends have $700-800 a month car payments on their FORD EXPLORERS and other mediocre vehicles.

My CPO 2016 Tiguan was $16,900 back in 2019 with 32k on it, and has been fantastic ever since. Same with my wife’s 2018 Jetta with 45k we got in 2020, fantastic. And what’s better? Combined, we only spend $640 a month in payments.

But hey, if you want the latest and greatest and look cool in parking lot, go ahead and spend those crazy car payments.

Also, I should add…my brother works at Tesla, has been there since the plant opened. He bought a Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor two years ago, used with 20k on it. He’s already ready to get rid of it. He charges for free at work, so that’s cool, but he drives a lot and is a car guy, the build quality is decent but his battery SUCKS in the winter and when he’s not near a supercharger, like on a road trip, it’s super inconvenient.

Yea I think the right fit for them is multi car households. I wouldnt want it to be my only car. When we take road trips we take my truck, and my wife splits her time like 80/20 between her tesla and a jeep.

This. Now imagine trying to live with one as your only car and you live in an apartment in Buffalo that doesn’t have off street parking. But hey, we’re going to mandate them so fuck you and your problems. Take the bus I guess.

Reminds me of will smith being the rebel in I robot with his motorcycle.

Having a motorcycle again seems like a better idea the more and more we get into the 2020s…

If “I need to get the fuck out of here” was a vehicle, I think a nice dual sport or adventure bike would be the choice over an over-lander that’ll get stuck in traffic.

“Nice knowing you fam, good luck defending your selves during what ever apocalyptical scenario I’m escaping on my sweet dual sport.”

Or maybe I buy 3 and teach my wife and daughter to ride so we’re ready to escape the zombies/plague/weather disaster/cunt governor coming to take my guns and stove.

LOL, yeah I guess with a family that’s not great. But a pack of them would be badass.

Then the whole fam can go jackass style and do flips off of the stacked up electric cars around cities.

Wait are you paying $640 a month on a 7 and 5 year old vehicle?

No no lol. Our payments are $320 and 340 a month on both. Last year on the Tiguan and then Jetta next year.

With the sneaky edit. I was also wondering why you were still making payments on a $17k car you bought in 2017. Edit to 2019 makes more sense.

Our Enclave has been paid off since before I got the Audi and the Audi has $2340 left on the loan. Pretty soon we’ll be in that sweet sweet period of no car payments. Audi has about 50k miles and I plan to keep it at least 5 more years, maybe more since I just love that car. Enclave is getting up there with almost 100k. Still feel like it’s got a lot of life left though so no intentions to trade it unless it starts giving me major issues. In the last year I’ve had to do an alternator and the high pressure fuel pump but those repairs were less than 4 months worth of payments on anything we’d replace it with so definitely worth just throwing a few parts at it.

I had to lol, I asked my wife and she’s like “you did not buy that thing in 2017 and the Jetta we were wearing masks when we bought it!”
