The Rapid Move To All Electric (But Real Goal = No Personal Cars)

toyota is pissing money away on a lot of stupid shit these days

Purposely putting technology into making the car stall or feel like it’s stalling is so dumb

The only possible value would be if they can simulate hundreds of cool cars.
I can see it now. DLC for your POS so you can pretend to know how to drive a stick.

C’mon this is kinda cool…

I asked the engineer riding with me if you could hypothetically do a technique used by drifters called a “clutch kick.” This is when a drifter quickly presses and releases the clutch pedal to send a shock through to the rear wheels to help break the rear end loose. He confirmed that’s something that could be done.

If it’s actually a working clutch, that thing better be beefy, the instant torque of e-motors are going to fry the drivetrain.

It’s not it’s all simulated

Sounds like it wouldbe interesting for a few minutes.

But only if you can download cool car profiles.

Interestingly they talk about fire codes for commercial ramps. I wonder if we’re one bad fire away from a state or local politician mandating fire suppression for EVs in homes.

I think the real danger would be a ramp under a skyscraper. Imagine if several EVs were allowed to burn and ignited other cars in the ramp?

I wonder if it could melt steel I-beams.

There’s a few racing organizations that I race with that have banned EV’s because they don’t have the proper equipment to put out a fire if it should happen.

Why not just ban Chinese EVs and dispense with all half measures?

Washington has effectively built a fortress to keep out Chinese EVs. Former President Donald Trump imposed a 25% tax on Chinese auto imports. President Biden backed that policy and went further, denying them “Buy America” credits that can reduce consumers’ price tag by thousands of dollars.

“China is determined to dominate the electric-vehicle market by using unfair trade practices, but I will not let them,” Biden told auto-union workers in Illinois earlier this month. “I promise you.”

Biden administration officials, meanwhile, say they have learned hard lessons from China’s rise to dominate American manufacturers in industries such as solar panels and steel.

Meanwhile, Chinese automakers are preparing to assemble EVs in or near the U.S. to avoid the tariffs. Polestar, a luxury EV brand owned by Chinese automaker Geely and its Volvo unit, plans to start production in South Carolina next year. Another Chinese auto manufacturer, Chery, is building a plant in Mexico, and BYD and SAIC-owned MG are ramping up their presence in that country.

It’s incredible to me that we would even allow Chinese/Communist manufacturers to build/own property in the US. Being one of the newest nations, we sure do forget our history real quick.

i’ve been hearing a lot of this from dealers themselves. best move thus far as been to hold off on the EV roll outs that require major infrastructure build-out like Ford’s.

Congress pumping the brakes on the EV sham.

“Marketing”

All of Canada. So what happens to the prices of gas cars when there’s no supply, but still demand? :pinched_fingers:

CBC News has learned that Ottawa will release final regulations it says will ensure that all new passenger cars sold in Canada by 2035 are zero-emission vehicles, a senior government source said.

…20 per cent of all vehicles sold to be zero-emissions vehicles by 2026. That target rises to 60 per cent by 2030, and 100 per cent by 2035.
