The Trump Presidency Discussion Thread (Non-Meme version)

Yep, exactly. Like how this order could be in violation of the equal protection clause.

Lol I guess I don’t see what you do. The people effected are aliens and by law the president has the authority as he/she sees fit in regards to national security. You can’t just say “I dont believe he has the right intentions. I think he wants to ban Muslims”. I guess it depends on what you think is above, equal protection clause or the law as it is. And in that sense who the equal protection clause applies to. I think people are confusing human rights vs. Rights and protections of US Citizens under the constitution. (I understand that there are those that believe that it applies to everyone vs only US citizens, pretty much like any other issue of left vs right)

But you can’t make me believe that this action was taken because this judge really had a heartfelt moment for the people effected by it. Not based on everything that is going on. Yes it’s an assumption. Maybe I will be proven wrong but I totally believe that no matter what Trump does or will do, it will all be the same. This isn’t really about what is right , or what is based on facts, it’s about proving that Trump is a bigot, mysoginist, fascist, racist etc etc

How do so many responses turn into trying to blame dem antics?

Didn’t the GOP do everything in their power to go against ANYTHING the Obama administration introduced for the last 8 years? Please help me understand how the lack of preparation on this EO from the current WH was a fault of the left. I don’t see a correlation or any reason why it was brought up.

It’s no secret that they are spending all of their time trying to work against him.

I think it’s fair to point out the obvious here that they have no interest in working with him.

I’m willing to bet that they won’t be having a say in his revised plan either.

That’s not what I’m debating. At all. I don’t care. We all know Democrats are doing everything they can to oppose Trump. A big clue was when they said they were going to do it. I’m trying to talk about the actual subject and the effects it may have on the nation instead of just pointing fingers.

Really curious to get everyone’s take on this. We’re not even a month into this administration and shit like this is happening.

A few things:

  • The former acting AG Sally Yates warned the WH about Flynn’s ties to Russia and about them possibly hanging something over his head. (Before being fired for not supporting the travel ban.)
  • The WH refuses to release the transcripts of Flynn’s or Trump’s calls with Russia.
  • Evidence of Flynn’s ties to Russia go back long before the election.

I don’t always go with the ‘where there is smoke there is fire mentality’ when it comes to the things I read in the news, but god damn there’s a lot of smoke.

There’s been some increased reporting on intelligence concerns related to some of the senior White House Staff. Unconfirmed reports that Russia some how received information from the Situation Room, etc. etc.

Kushner’s ‘former’ news site has even been reporting on it. The Spy Revolt Against Donald Trump Begins | Observer

Then Trump tweets this:

Anyone catch the cell phones out at the table at Mar-a-Lago after the NK launch?

He was a new hire that didn’t work out and got caught lying to his boss, and now he’s gone. It’s definitely not as campaign shattering as the left is trying to make it out to be but it doesn’t look good for any president when one of his picks screws up this fast.

Should Flynn have been talking to them before the election and before he was confirmed? Nope. Probably would have blown over had he not told Pence, “No, I definitely didn’t talk to them about sanctions” only to have Pence go on the talk circuit backing him up then Flynn a few days later goes, “Oh wait, maybe I did”. If I pulled that with my boss I’d get fired too (except in politics you don’t get fired, you get asked to resign).

To me, this 100% falls on Flynn. It’s just a convenient opportunity for the left to throw shade at an event that could have happened to either side.

You guys don’t think it warrants any additional investigation by the House Oversight or Intelligence Committees?

Yowzers. No one is talking about what the left is doing with this. Stick to the topic.

Will you knock it off with this. Of course this is a left vs right thing. THAT’S FUCKING POLITICS. Crying stick to the topic every time someone brings it up is getting more and more pointless. You can’t have the conversation about how far this should be investigated without bring up that one side has a leaked playbook that literally says, “blow everything out of proportion as much as possible since we have no real power after losing the house, senate and white house”.

Should it be investigated, sure. Should it get anywhere near the coverage it’s going to get in the MSM based on everything we know right now, definitely not. In 2012 Obama got caught in a hot mic pre-election saying to Russia, “just wait till after the election” about the missile defense thing. Not, “maybe he discussed something about something” speculation, he’s on mic actually saying this. It didn’t get nearly the press coverage this is.

^ And that’s why you can’t have these discussions without bring up left/right. The past gives context to the discussion and cuts through the overblown fake indignation.

This is absolutely about left vs right because the AG is playing the ‘I told you so card’ and the media is saying that Trump should be held accountable for hiring a guy with Russian ties.

Are you just saying stick to topic because we don’t agree on things?

I’m thoroughly confused why you keep telling me stay on topic, when I’ve always stuck to talking about the subject at hand…

At this point, anything that Trump is being criticized for is a left vs right thing because they are still salty over the election and they are looking for any small victory to claim that Trump is failing. This is another example IMO

@JayS - No, I won’t. You constantly want to disregard what the MSM is reporting. Well, here’s your fucking chance. I sourced an article that goes over the KNOWN details and prompted discussion about THAT topic. Who cares if CNN is jerking off on their teleprompters about it? We should be discussing OUR interpretation of that information without saying stupid shit all the time which is constantly distracting from the actual topic. I’m actively trying NOT to have it be blown our of proportion. Do you seriously take this as me defending the left or MSM? For fuck’s sake, man. It seems like very real problems are attempted to be dismissed by using the MSM as an excuse. Get over it. We need to apply some critical thinking to the situation without the bias we all claim to hate.

So to borrow your words, I’m going to keep pointing them out and if you keep calling me out about it I’m going to keep telling you to go eat a bag of dicks. MRGA!

mb Flynn should have communicated via private email server.

Well that escalated quickly…

@Paulo Something tells me that you want this to be a bigger deal than it is and I’m not sure why?

This is an example of a person chosen to do a job, who clearly fucked up and said something that he clearly shouldn’t have. He resigned after he lied and made the white house back him, after he gave them inaccurate information.

What answer are you looking for? Do you think Trump should be impeached?

You got 2 pretty honest and clear answers from board members on here and one you attacked and told to ‘stick to the topic’ (I’m still lost as to where I strayed…)

The significant difference here is that he was actually the President at the time he said it. Flynn was a civilian, and may have actually broken the law by corresponding in the way he did, if what he reportedly discussed is true.

@BOBBYGRV - I do not, actually. It’s the biggest story out there right now so it worth talking about. I want this to be what you started with; Trump didn’t realize it and demanded his resignation upon finding out. However, there are still looming allegations about ties to Russia so the implicit correlation with Flynn’s ties and possibly Trump’s ties are a concern for me. Intelligence leaks have been lining up with the dossier that was released in January.

I hate to use this argument, but pretend this was Hillary at the helm. What questions would you be asking?
