Thinking about creating some OBD software, need input

For those of you who don’t know me, i’m oldschool, been on pittspeed / psr for about 4 years, was a mod several times etc etc.

Anyways, after taking my Introduction To Systems Software class i have become pretty well versed in serial port communications in the PalmOS. I was thinking about what things i could do with it and a datalogger came to mind. I knew that there was already a product called pocketlogger for 1st Gen DSMs and OBD II cars but i figured it might be cool to make my own anyways and sell it cheaper. I was looking at creating a very similiar app for a palm pilot that would get all the data from the ecu, such as rpm, all the sensors such as water temp etc etc and the error codes. If i sold this product for ~$125 with the cable and adapter included would you be interested in buying it? If not, why? If i created it as an application for laptop computer to run in windows would you be more likely to purchase that?

i imagine the software for the palm would look something along the lines of this, except with color support

the cost would be roughly $50 cheaper than pocketlogger

also, i noticed there is no support for OBD-1 ECUs for hondas. There are plenty of data loggers for DSMs but no hondas… i might make mine OBD1 honda specific

I posted soem screen shots from their site.

I hooked up to my car…it works…my laptop is a POS, so its not the best setup, but it works.
It a little too complicated for me.
Gearhead borrowed it from me…not sure if he’s used it but he might be able to fill you in more on it.

i’d say its OBD1.

yeah, chad its not very sophisticated:bowdown:
but the E.F.I we have is NOT complicated at all.
Meaning any jerkoff can figure out what works well and still not blow the motor. :bigthumb: :blue: :blue:  :itr41:  :itr41: :itr41:  :itr41:
