This Looks Interesting (Calspan Track)

Anyone have a contact for the crash test site by the Buffalo airport?

That banked turn looks like fun…

I’m only partially serious. I stumbled onto this today and totally forgot the name of the company that operates there. I never looked at a map to check it out before and always thought it was much smaller.

EDIT: It’s Calspan, right?

Yep, that’s Calspan.

If you’re looking for another NYSpeed meeting venue, looks good to me.

nice find!

I just talked to someone who tells me he’s actually been on that “track” … I need more info, lol.

They occasionally forget to disable OnStar when they crash. Used to result in a response from the fire dept. It doesn’t happen too much anymore.

Holy hell that is awesome. Someone here has to have connections!

The view of the airport at night on the roof is spectacular, and so was the new infinity about a year+ ago… :snky:

I know a few people that work there. I would say no matter what your connections are there probably is a very slim chance you’d ever get your own vehicle back there. Too much liability, plus nearly all the work they do there is strictly confidential and a lot of times pretty cutting edge in terms of tire tech. No one realizes what that facility has brought to motorsport/tire tech as a whole. Definitely cool.

I had my truck back there a week ago lol. and drove it on the bank turn… pretty sketchy going slow. it’s steep.

I have worked in there multiple times. You will not get in there. Very secure place with or without contacts

Ummmm…

Im sure Joe was on due to his profession. Not because he owns a car forum and wants to use it as a test track and organize a meet

Yep. They are doing some drainage, concrete, and paving work and I had to take a look. I was left unsupervised and just had to drive the ramp lol. Yes, you have to get a badge and be escorted to get back there. The ramp is in rough enough shape that I wouldn’t take a car full speed at it. Guy I met told me they don’t use it anymore, and they filmed part of some movie there? can’t remember which one.

I didn’t take any pics because I was told not to… and was afraid if I did a drone would come over and take me out lol

I interviewed there a couple jobs ago and noticed the security was pretty strict.

They have security because they’re still a defense contractor.

I forget if it was Calspan or one of the other contractors in that area that was accidentally broadcasting fake airplanes onto the radar for
the Buffalo airport

My goal next time is to get into the firing range that’s underground but it’s restricted due to lead contamination.
