anyone have live plants? i just redid my tank and switched to live plants, currently have a couple amazon swords and some crypts. just curious if i should do anything or need a certain type of bulb for them. tank is a 45gal. that is kept at about 72-74 degrees. wanna make sure i dont kill these before adding more. thanks.
at work we had to remember to plug in the aquarium lamp so the plants would live, have to put it on a timer I think.
I suppose if its in a sunny window than your ok…except its buffalo so we don’t get tropical type sun…
I would use some plant additive as well, like supliments for the plants. I use it on my 55G planted and it grows like crazy.
How much light do you have on the tank? With plants you typically want more than normal; I think its 3-5 watts/gallon for flourescent. I’ve got 160 watts on my 55G currently.
go to the pet store and make sure you get the 420 bulb… they’re typically labeled 420 b/c of people trying to grow weed with them, but that’s what you want for plants. i used to have one set up for plants but now i just have my turtle and my “grow a frog”
Also forgot to mention to watch what fish you have in there; lots like feeding on live plants.
Yep i was goin to say that, I had a lot of fish that preferred to eat the plants vs their food. So i never worried when i left town. Live plants get thumbs up in my book
^^“i have an 11000k ultra daylight” 30watt bulb that i had gotten last summer at pets plus in lockport when my old one burned out. is that not sufficient of light? its pretty damn bright if you ask me. as for this plant additive, whats it called? thanks.
Flourish is the stuff I use, like a cap full a month works great.
Get bulbs that closely mimick daylight. I cant remember how many K it was off the top of my head. I didnt do anything special to the water. I put them in and never really had an issue. Until they eat the plants bare. then its rip out and replace.
