that gar is really cool! i have a pair of red bellied piranhas in a 125 gallon tank. nothing too spectacular, but its fun letting a couple community fish in there every now and then
heres the most recent picture i have of my tank. its from the beginning of june though. 45gallon running two undergravel foam filters with an airpump and using the plants to feed the fish with rest of the needed oxygen. have some crypts, amazon swords, and lugwig. shit hit the fan with the lugwig though, i ended up ripping it out. swords are starting to fill in quite a bit more though and the crypts are getting pretty big. real driftwood, real rock. only thing that pisses me off is the blue in the gravel. its tempting me to drain the entire tank and give my mom all my fish for now(she has a 55 gallon as well.) as for my fish, i have some albino rams, white tip bristlenose pleco, oto cats, neon tetras, black neon tetras, scissor tails, glass cats, cory cats, etc. id love to go with chiclids or discus, but i would defineatly have to scrap my fish i have now.
im looking to start a set up. i wanna get a 55 gallon tank. what are some good fish to have in it together. ill prob get some real drift wood and fake plants. is it a good idea to boil the wood or clean in a bleach solution?
I used to have a 55gal with some fresh water sharks (bala sharks??), one random ghey angelfish, a plecko, some Tiger Barbs, ehhh I can’t remember. I bunch of random stupid fish.
I did have a pretty rad brackish tank with a puffer fish though. He was sweet.
It depends on what you want. Do you want peaceful fish (boring) or aggressive fish? You can mix and match almost any peaceful fish together and feed them all fish flakes. It’s real easy to run one of those. But if you want aggressive you have to do you research. Take a look at the fish that are mixed together at the store and that will give you an idea of what you can put in it. Also, you cant mix fish that like cool water with ones that like it warm. The only thing that I could keep with the piranhas was a plecko for obvious reasons but I didn’t care, they were cool as fuck.
Boil the wood. Bleach is a no no. Get de chlorinating liquid before you add the fish too.
thx for the info. ill prob just do boring fish, anyone know someone trying to sell a tank? id like to buy used over spending 500 in a store for just a tank and stand
that would be great, i just took a look on CL but id rather buy from someone kiinda known. incase it leaks… some people try to sell anything. u know how it is
I’ll post up some pix later.
I started with a 36 gallon i bought on here. I figured I liked fish and watching them and what not. SHit happens i put my elbow through the tank cleaning and now we have a beautiful 60 gallon.
I’m running a 60 gallon with a penguin bio wheel filter Contemplating what direction I really want to go. I have a planted tank on one side and a pretty show on the other.
In the tank I have 16 Neon tetras 4 sunburst platys 4 black skirt tetras 2 black angel fish 1 pleco and one (stupid ugly shouldn’t be in there but the wife insisted) moore
As far as plants I have Java fern some wisteria and some flame moss that is growing good but not really taking.
Pix to follow.

i got rid of my fish adn forgot to buy new ones…right now my tank is filled with water, has gravel, 3 golf balls, and 3 oldschool plastic wrestling action figures…
if youre wondering: undertaker, hulk, ultimate warrior.
D has a 120 and a 180 plus some other tanks in his basement, I am sure he will post up.
I had a 46 bow with some giant Jack Dempseys in college till it sprung a leak.
Now I have a 30 eclipse with random cichlids and a 20 with some convicts.
My current living arrangement is not good for owning fish. The temperature swings 15 degrees in a day and the house was set at 62 in the winter.
I plan to get a 200+ and get some bamboo sharks one I get my own place
Here are some old pictures from my previous apartment:
I had a Jack Dempsey, some fresh water puffers and some other misc chiclids. They all got along pretty well together. After a few years all but the Dempsey died, and he grew to about 7 inches long. Went out of town for a weekend, came back to find him on the floor. Somehow he escaped through one of the filter/light cord openings on the lid of the tank. Bastard.
Dempsey is the lower left pic - this is when I first got them so they were still little. The Dempsey’s look pretty badass when fully matured.
Me and the wifey started working on the tank today.
Looks sort of bare but we still need a backdrop and when the plants grow it will fill in nicely.
Got 3 live plants. I like the grass on the right side (forgot the name). It grows fast and gets really green. We also bought the rocks. The blue one in the middle matches the gravel and glows a bit with the lights on.
4 Asian Needle Nose gar. These are my favorite so far. Very good hunters.
5 tri-color sharks (bala)
2 dalmation mali
2 upside down catfish. These things are pretty cool. They swim upside down, hence the name.
