I have a Macbook Air coming this week and its got one trying to see what hardware this hooks up to…
It’s a really solid interface, but currently the devices tend to be high end and expensive.
There was a few things just released at CES 2012 that have thunderbolt ports, mostly just external hard drives designed for extreme performance.
Still, a synchronous 10GBIT interface with such a small and easy to use plug is great.

Not really a accurate comparison or technology. Lightpeak (Thunderbolt) was developed by Intel and it will start seeing further adaption. Presently only apple and sony have it but many Ivy Bridge motherboards, laptops and oem desktops will start shipping with it. It has the potential to be balls out awesome, but it really still in its early stages device wise.
The Gen 2 controllers are looking especially awesome…
